I just went and had some Pho yesterday.

Excellent stuff.

Though, it is kind of sad, as the Pho place only had me and one other lady with her kid in it, and the lady left after I was there for about 5 mins, so I was the only one eating there for like 45 minutes. And this was during the typical "lunch hour".

I hope they don't go under.

Pho Grand in St. Louis is excellent.

Good question. I would be a happy man if the ingredients were available in grocery stores.

I think I might pho tomorrow too. I still have a $10 gift certificate.

There's some good pho places here. There's a section of town sorta like a Little Saigon area. One place is called "Pho Hua" that only serves pho. Another good place is "Saigon" that has a very VERY extensive menu... I'm talking 12 pages at least.

actually, you can buy the items from asian supermarkets. if you had time, you would cook beef for a few hours so you get some good soup. if not, then you can buy a packet and pour it into the water (kinda like the chicken bouillon cubes). then, you can buy the rice stick (i prefer the kind that says "banh pho" on it, since that's the one made for pho. also, the fresh one is best, but it's more expensive). then, you can buy some thinly sliced beef along with some onions and some green onions. put the noodles in a bowl along with the beef and onions and then pour on the boiling soup.

add some lemon, bean sprouts, and some of the "mints".

Well, I guess I will throw out a suggestion if you're in the Seattle area.

Thanh Brothers on 42nd & University has excellent pho at college student prices. The pho is authentic, and so is the complimentary French-occupation influenced creme puff you get with the soup.

Of course, no place is better or more authentic in Seattle than my mom's house, but you all wouldn't fit in the kitchen there.

I have eaten at Thanh Brothers also, and would also recommend it.

They have a little sign in the window: "Free Dessert"

Thanks for the advice. I had actually been looking at a few recipes on the web, but they all called for several pounds of beef bones to make the broth, which are supposed to cook for several hours. Seems like a lot of effort, compared to driving a couple miles and getting it almost immediately. I think I might have to make it myself though at least once.

Update, good pho is available in Tallahassee at the Rice Bowl restaurant way up North Monroe. Massive servings.

Mmm. There was a great pho place in Madison, I used to eat there about once a week. Haven't had any good pho since moving to Texas, though. Don't suppose any Houston otters have a good pho recommendation?

I forgot to mention - it's really really good stuff, but if you go there - don't forget to wear your kevlar body armor. Bad neighborhood.

If you're constipated, try the above. Works better than Ex-Lax.

you can also use oxtail. you could just start cooking the soup, then watch a movie or two, and then it's done

oh, and i forgot to add that you should put some hoisin sauce (it's also called tuong an pho) and, if you like it a little hot, add some Sriracha sauce (or tuong ot).

oh, and to correct myself, you should use lime, not lemon.

And the green time is just about equal for Rosemead as it is for Garvey.

Anyway, thanks. I'll check it out one of these days.

That's where I used to live, in Arcadia. Anyway, I've heard there are some good Pho places on Valley Blvd too in Alhambra and Monterey Park. I'm not a big pho fan myself, since I don't eat beef.

Pho is great. It's all about the broth. Some Vietnamese restaurants have bland broth which ruins the flavor but one local place has the best pho and nice crunchy egg rolls to go with it. Yum!

BTW, the noodles in pho are rice noodles.
