Politics Sheep: 4th Term

By popular demand, it's ...

Never played before? Here's some praise for the game:
Spoiler:

"These things are the most fun way to waste time at work since GemCraft." - maxfisher

"This is the most stirring display of gallantry and sportsmanship since Mountbatten gave India back to the Punjabs." - wishbone

"These have been really fun." - Tracer Bullet

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank The Bus for quite possibly the funniest commentary of any of the sheep games." - orangecrush18

    Rules

  • The object of the game is to out-think everyone by picking answers to questions that are the most common (Sheep) or least common (Reverse Sheep), but still correct.
  • Example Sheep question: "Name a unit of currency." A good answer would be the U.S. dollar and a bad answer might be the Uruguayan peso.
  • Example Reverse Sheep question: "Name a current member of the cabinet". Hillary Clinton might be a bad answer, but Shaun Donovan might be a good answer. (Unless you think everyone else is trying to go as obscure as possible, in which case you might outsmart them by naming Hillary Clinton).
  • Sheep scores are tallied as negative numbers. Reverse Sheep scores are tallied as positive numbers. The lowest score wins.
  • The answers to each question are tallied up. Wrong answers in Reverse Sheep are scored two points above the most common answer. This penalty is multiplied by the Lightning Round Multiplier. Wrong answers in Sheep are not penalized.
  • Certain rounds are considered Lightning Rounds (designated by a multiplier, such as ×2). In these rounds, scores are adjusted by the number on the multiplier. A wrong answer still gets a +4 penalty in a ×2 round and a +6 penalty in a ×3 round, and so on. In a sheep round, a wrong answer scores normally.
  • The assumption is that you will not use Google, Wikipedia, etc. You may choose to do so. However, if you so choose, you must indicate each answer for which you have used an outside resource by placing an asterisk (*) before the answer. You will be penalized one point for your first asterisked answer, two points for your second asterisked answer, four points for your third asterisked answer, and so on.
  • Please send in your answers to me via PM. Place only one answer per line, without numbers or the question itself. Those who do not do this will be penalized 10 points right off the bat.
  • Note: Be creative with your answers, but don't be stupid.
  • Sheep questions are marked by an S:, Reverse Sheep questions are marked by an R:.
  • Unique Bonus: Reverse Sheep questions will generate additional bonus (negative) points if we have at least 25 entrants and there are less than 6 people with unique answers according to the following:
    1 Unique is awarded -15
2 Uniques are awarded -10 each
3 Uniques are awarded -6 each
4 Uniques are awarded -3 each
5 Uniques are awarded -1 each
  • To assist you in submitting your answers, a spreadsheep is available here. Thanks to Groucho for preparing it.

    The Questions

  1. R: ×2 Name someone who has served as Chief Justice of the United States
  2. S: Name a current federal judge who has never been nominated to the Supreme Court.
  3. S: Besides the Star Spangled Banner, name a patriotic song (hint: most of our players are from the U.S.)
  4. S: Name a network known for its news coverage.
  5. R: Lots of people vied for the Republican and Democratic nomination for the presidency in 2008. Name one of them.
  6. S: Lots of people ran for president in 2008 on a ticket other than Democratic or Republican. Name one of those people.
  7. R: Name a battle in the U.S. Civil War in which there were 10,000 or more casualties (combined, both sides)
  8. S: ×2 Name a country that has had a revolution in the last decade.
  9. S: Besides China, name a country in Asia.
  10. R: ×3 Give me the name of any country's national anthem.
  11. R: Name a country with a higher per capita GDP than the U.S.
  12. S: Name a defense contractor.
  13. S: Name a state that borders Canada.
  14. R: Name a member of the Warsaw Pact
  15. S: The 111th Congress is facing many pressing issues. Which one is most important?
  16. R: The Heritage Foundation publishes an Index of Economic Freedom. Countries with a score of 70 or higher are considered free or mostly free. Name one of those countries.
  17. R: 13 leaders participated in the recent G8 summit in L'Aquila, Italy. Name one of them.
  18. R: ×2 Name one of the purposes for which We the People did ordain and establish the Constitution of the United States of America
  19. S: ×2 Name a general, past or present.
  20. R: ×3 The standard expenditures approach to calculating GDP represents GDP as a function of five variables. Tell me what one of those five variables represents.
  21. S: ×3 If you were to ask people to name all the presidents, which one would most people have the hardest time remembering?
  22. R: ×4 We all know the original 13 colonies. Name one of the next 13 states after that (that is, states #14 through 26) to join the Union.
  23. S: ×5 What American who has never been President has had the greatest influence on the U.S.?

I will allow answers through 5:00 PM EDT Wednesday, July 22, or until we hit 40-or-so players, whichever comes first. Results will be posted at some point after July 22, depending on how quickly the NORAD computers can tabulate the results.

I locked in my own answers before I posted this, just to avoid any accusations that I might be cheating. So I hereby award myself enough bonus points to ensure I defeat orangecrush and the Bus.

You were the first non-me entrant, though. I hereby award you one half of one bonus point (to be awarded at the end of the game just to make scorekeeping easier). Offer void if you wind up tied with someone.

Let's say either way. I'm also going to accept any of the "Big 3" analyses of GDP (IMF/CIA Factbook/World Bank). We're still only talking about a universe of two dozen or so countries.

C'mon. It takes 10 minutes. I was collaborating with a coworker on work stuff AND answering questions at the same time.

How is GDP being measured? Nominal? Purchasing-power-parity?

Either way. See my response to Red Dog at Post #9.

I was thinking of #19 as a great question for Round 4.

Is this the first game to have the "you can google" rule? Or is this just the first time I've noticed it?

I did it in Comic Book Sheep, but I don't think anybody else has imported it into their own Sheep games.

Yes. Do you think it won't work as a reverse?

To clarify, I'm looking for states #14-26, not states #51-63. Anyone who misunderstood can feel free to resubmit.
