Quote:
Beloved Seattle rock band, Soundgarden, is celebrating the 25th anniversary of their 2x platinum album, Badmotorfinger, with four special reissues including a 7-disc, limited edition, super deluxe version. The limited edition 7-disc super deluxe consists of 4 CDs, 2 DVDs, and 1 Blu-ray Audio disc with 109 tracks total: 79 tracks, videos & mixes are previously unreleased. The CD audio content includes the original album newly remastered; 15 previously unreleased studio outtakes newly mixed from the original analog multi-tracks plus the track 'New Damage' featuring Brian May from Queen; and Live at the Paramount: Soundgarden's first-ever complete concert album newly mixed from the original analog multi-tracks and recorded at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle on March 6, 1992.

The band's first complete concert video features Live at the Paramount on DVD 1, newly edited from the original camera masters and newly mixed in 5.1 surround sound and stereo from the original analog multi-tracks. The second DVD is Motorvision + More: Soundgarden's 1992 Motorvision home video, released on DVD for the first time ever, showcases live selections from the two nights shot at the Paramount Theatre in March 1992 along with interviews from the band and friends. Bonus videos include 11 unreleased archival live performances from various shows and festivals in 1992 and the three official music videos from the album. The Blu-ray Audio disc contains the original Badmotorfinger album, three B-sides, and the three official music videos, newly mixed from original analog multi-tracks in audiophile 96kHz 24-bit 5.1 surround sound. The original album and three B-sides feature newly designed visuals directed by Josh Graham.

The Super Deluxe version also includes a revolving Badmotorfinger icon ultimate collector's box (batteries included) that features a 52-page book with a 25th anniversary silver foil Badmotorfinger icon cover, newly designed art, unreleased photos, and commemorative testimonials from fellow musicians and peers. People seem to like Superunknown, but I think Badmotorfinger is Soundgarden's best album. Surprised that the super deluxe version doesn't come with a vinyl version of the album.

All of this and they don't include the original bonus CD? Weak.

Superunknown is good but can't hold a candle to Badmotorfinger IMO.

There's a raw energy to Badmotorfinger much like Pearl Jam's Ten. Both bands' follow ups were good but sounded much more "produced" for lack of a better term.

Badmotorfinger is good but can't hold a candle to Superunknown

SUPERUNKNOWN is one of my favorite albums ever. I re-listened to BADMOTORFINGER after the SU deluxe box and was waiting for an announcement of this deluxe to give it more spins and see if I like it or remember more songs other than the singles released...

It's crazy how, I believe this is the only band that I don't have their earliers albums (before BADMOTORFINGER) and don't really care about the others [which I have... DOWN ON THE UPSIDE and KING ANIMAL ] . I find their earlier stuff (which I've heard some songs on both HITS cd's I have) and King Animal boring. DOTU is not an album I think I would rebuy, only like probably 2-3 songs on it. But BADMOTORFINGER I believe would like a lot, I basically do but mostly because of the videos/singles released.

So it comes down to SUPERUNKNOWN is basically the only album i listened from them, cause it's great and I love it. rant over

I think Badmotorfinger is their best. I would love to have those live cds, but I am sure this one will be way overpriced.

Fortunately, this has not been brickwalled & could possibly be an improvement over the original release as it was a little too low in my opinion. Between this & the new Metallica it looks like the audio engineers are finally starting to wise up & do these remasters properly. Made comparisons of 2 tracks between the new release and the original. Top is orig release & bottom is the remaster.

Has anyone picked this up for a REASONABLE price? I really just want the 5.1 mix but the prices I've seen for this set are all astronomical.

I think I got the same deal. Mine arrived on Wednesday. I don't usually drop that much coin on these inflated sets, however, there is a TON of great material that was included. I highly recommend it if you're a fan.

Like I said, I'm only interested in the 5.1 BluRay surround mix. Have you guys listened to it yet? I know the last few surround mixes from the guy who did this one sounded pretty bad (especially Superunknown). What are your opinions on it?

I'll have to defer to others on the 5.1 mix as I'm currently not set up for 5.1. Too many other home improvements that take precedence over that one. Maybe someday...

I just got the 2CD version. It has 90% of what I would want, and I really can't justify spending that much on the super deluxe. The Nirvana and SP stuff has set me back enough.
