"Dress like a rock star" day at my kid's school
It was dress like a rock star day. A kid in my daughter's kindergarten class wore a Hotel California T-shirt. Now the parents are obviously to blame.
Child abuse?

Interesting that rock is said to be dead and yet little children want to dress up as rock stars. Why wasn't Pop Star or Rap Star day?

A friend lent his old Rollins Band tee shirt to his daughter for her high school's 'dress like the '90s' day. She got a few props from her teachers.

Good question. It actually leads to a very different issue. I've got two kids, kinder and third. The kinder kid doesn't have a favorite rock star she just dressed in her usual shit. The only kids that dressed up were kids who had no choice and mom/dad just put something on them (like poor little Eagles fan).
Third grader is different. She has a favorite rock star...it's Michael Jackson. She played Smooth Criminal so many times last summer that I now no longer like it. I said to my wife that it looks like Michael is like Elvis, or perhaps bigger than Elvis. Kids who are so young they were born after he died are loving his music. He's going to be around for a LONG time.
But how do you discuss Michael Jackson with your kids? She loves his music, but I think she's way too young to be told about his crazy lifestyle and the accusations that were made about him. Sending her to school with a Thriller shirt on might invite derision from kids who do know about him. It's a conundrum.
And FYI, she didn't dress up as anyone but herself.

I listen to plenty of artists knowing 0% about their personal lives.

So far I haven't discussed it. But eventually she'll find out. Someone will tell her. But what if she did want to dress as Michael Jackson or wear a Thriller shirt? I think I'd have to stop her.
