The Symbol album is good but goddamn those fucking Kirstie Alley sketches have to go.

Listening to Emancipation, and while I didn't think I listened to it a lot, I'm surprised at how many of the songs I'm familiar with .

Mentioned the ever changing lighting at Century Link earlier. Here it was last night:

And of course the more familiar icon:

I can't say I was much of a fan of Prince (the only album of his I'm really very familiar with is the soundtrack to Batman ) but I definitely always recognized that he was immensely talented. RIP.

Re: Prince dead at 57. RIP

So the cause of death is a Percocet OD?
That's very hard for me to believe. If the surgery took place in 2010, I presume he has been taking them for at least 5 years. 5 years on Oxycodone would build a HUGE tolerance. Even though he is a small guy, he would have to have taken a ridiculous amount of Percocet to kill him, & I believe the Acetaminophen would haved killed him before the Oxycodone did.

Re: Prince dead at 57. RIP

I was just speculating since his emergency landing last week was due to him OD'ing on Percocet.
Hours before his death he was seen at a Walgreens where is frequently shopped for his prescriptions.
One can only assume he died of an overdose since he obviously had an issue with the shit.

From TMZ:
Prince had been to his local Walgreens 4 times in the week before his death -- and had been treated for a Percocet OD in Moline, IL last week.
Multiple sources in Moline tell us, Prince was rushed to a hospital and doctors gave him a "save shot" ... typically administered to counteract the effects of an opiate.

I never would have thought Prince would be hooked on drugs. It just didn't seem like he was type of guy. What a shame.

I carry a shot of Narcan in my squad...at all times. Haven't had to use it yet.

I'm sure thats what they gave him in Moline as the "save shot".

Sadly it seems he had the same problem that a huge amount of Americans have. Persistent pain that leads to outrageous dependence on opium based pain killers. Something needs to be done. People aren't doing this to get high. Doctors need to stop prescribing this shit.

Not the biggest fan, but I certainly appreciate his talent. And I have very fond memories of his awesome early hits like "Little Red Corvette" and "1999" being part of the great fun that was early MTV.

Re: Prince dead at 57. RIP

As someone who will likely be on opioids for life, I can understand what happened. You don't take the stuff to get high, you take it because you want the pain to go away just so you can feel like everyone else does, everyday. No matter what you're prescribed, it never seems to be enough. Maybe you slept wrong, maybe you stepped on a rock and twisted funny, maybe you tried lifting something and the pain hits worse than ever and you'll do anything to make it stop.

The man had a hip replacement, bad knees and he still gave it 100% every performance. He didn't die of an overdose from having fun with dope, he died from an overdose of trying to make the hurting stop. Huge difference.

Re: Prince dead at 57. RIP

I read that he didn't have the hip replacement surgery and that he was just on a shit ton of pain management.

Re: Prince dead at 57. RIP

^ That's what I read, as well. He opted out of the surgery because of the whole blood transfusion thing. Religion...what are ya gonna do.

But, regardless of the drug stuff, it sucks that he probably could have been saved if he wasn't just being the same ol' Prince, refusing to stay in the hospital just because he couldn't have a private room.

It's weird not being able to find a song on YouTube.

Anyone have any favorites from the Batman soundtrack? I only remember Trust and Partyman.

The Future is great off of Batman, and it's one I want to listen to now. I liked all of them though.

SNL will have a tribute show (with all his performances and sketches) on at the regularly scheduled time of 11:29pm EST. (4/23/16)

Re: Prince dead at 57. RIP

Reminds me, besides all his vault recordings, pretty much every album he put out in the '80s (from Dirty Mind up to Batman) is badly in need of a remaster. He refused re-issues when he was alive, but I'm sure that now WB will be milking his recordings for years to come.

Re: Prince dead at 57. RIP

Sucks he is gone and you will never seem him again performing again on Fallon, SNL, or an awards show.

I liked the color purple since he made it look cool and liked him better than MJ since he was more edgy and dangerous.

Prince probably has more female fans compered to MJ.

I wanted to buy the Dirty Mind vinyl at Gemco when I was around 10 in the 8-'s but too embarrassed to show my mom with that album cover lol.

Not a huge fan of his stuff after he disbanded the Revolution and maybe stopped listening after 1992 and his music became more jam and jazz and less melodic in the 2000's though I bought Musicology and the lotusflower album that was a Target exclusive.

I wished he got a chance to reunite with the Revolution and go on a tour.

Automatic from 1999 was one of my favorites though it goes into a long instrumental
