Anyone go? I have to work, so I didn't make it. Granted, I would not have gone. It's too rowdy.

Hooray, it's the one day of the year that e-bay douches make sure I stay as far away from Record Stores as possible. Maybe I'll check out the leftovers tomorrow....

Re: Record Store Day, Sat April 16, 2016

I had to work today but my sister hit her local record store and got me:

Goblin - La Via Della Droga
The Animals - Animal Tracks
Dizzy Gallespie - The Champ
All the Side by Sides

And that was it. Apparently she over heard people were lining up at midnight at the store. Fucking nuts. I'm glad she got me these releases but I am a bit pissed that I missed some. I REALLY wanted:

The Doors - Live at Aquarius (If anyone got this, how much was it? Seeing it on ebay for $100)
Silly Symphonies - Skeleton Dance (same question)
Nosferatu Soundtrack

I wont be able to make it to a store until Monday.

This is what I'm going to do. There wasn't anything I was super interested in (except the Requiem for a Dream score), so I'll stop by a store tomorrow to see what they've got.

Re: Record Store Day, Sat April 16, 2016

So what's the real purpose of this day? Because it seems that Record Store Day is making people hate the event and the stores due to all the people who simply show up to buy stuff to sell on eBay. It seems that this day is attracting more negative feelings than actually helping small record store bring more business in the long term.

At this point it's mostly a marketing exercise for the local record shops. I stopped attending the event three years ago.

Re: Record Store Day, Sat April 16, 2016

It it pretty bad now with the gobbler/re-sellers for the records.

At least around here, though, it is an 'event' at the few stores around. They have live music, food trucks, and a lot of people do show up and shop and buy regular items.

Would be nice if they could organize something like this without the special day records, or 'somehow' make it that you could guarantee to get at least maybe 2 or 3 on your wish list.

Re: Record Store Day, Sat April 16, 2016

The stores I went today had people extremely pissed that they missed getting some vinyls due to several assholes who had camped since midnight to get a lot of these limited releases. Even though, records stores may get sales that day, it seems to be doing the complete opposite of Free Comic Book Day. Actually, Record Store Day has simply become a version of Black Friday for record stores.

Drove by the record store around 3pm, the line was still around the block. I noped my way out of there and went to buy steak instead.

I've been saying that for years.

The limited edition nature of the releases has just turned this into a big eBay flip-fest. People are showing up at these stores to find specific releases and end up leaving empty-handed and frustrated. It doesn't seem like an effective way to build up a customer base.

I walked in yesterday pretty late and got a copy of The Monkees logo single and my daughter got the Gerard Way single she has been hoping to get. Lots of people even at 3 pm in the afternoon.

Amoeba released their RSD inventory online and I had the John Wick OST in my cart going in for the checkout until I got a prompt saying that "sorry that item has gone out of stock." Somebody else obviously got to it before I did.

I got the Matthew Sweet and (not part of RSD) Foo Fighters EP...I went late. I wanted the Alanis demos but my store didn't even get any.

vvinyl.com (Vintage Vinyl Records) has their leftovers online, they have the Alanis disc at moment.

Discogs saves the day. Snagged a copy of that OST of John Wick for about $27 shipped. There are a couple of them still on there under 30$ shipped if one was so inclined. It's limited to only 2500 copies.

I should get the Cheap Trick albums but they're not really a priority right now.

I've got the Taxi Driver from Waxworks Records and Lost Themes II from Sacred Bones coming in this week.

Man, I held off on two releases that Mondo did a week ago for RSD. I also ordered the Agalloch colored vinyls from the End Records. Got billed the $80 and it was a preorder for July!

I just put in an offer for the Cheap Trick 10" "Found New Parts." Might as well.

Here's a discount code that folks can use on Amoeba's site for 10% off your order.

I've wondered about that "make an offer" on discogs. How's it work? Much luck?

I did my first order on there a month ago for Ghost - Infestassimum red vinyl.

Don't know - I assume it's like Ebay. You put in an offer and the seller has 5 days to accept or decline. If your offer is declined then you cannot make another one or purchase the item.
