The 'Post Your Five Random Tunes' Thread
I'm an old guy (as in wore bell bottoms to school) with an old car whose CD player died about a year and a half ago. The car has no USB or any kind of digital connection, but the radio still works, so I use that pretty much every time I drive. The idea for this thread came to me as a result of my scanning through stations to find music that I can listen to.
With that in mind, I encourage everyone here to post your own five random songs, be they tunes that you heard at the mall, on shuffle on your portable device, on TV commercials, whatever. If no one else feels like contributing, that's fine, too...I can carry this thread solo for a good long while.
Here's my first five:
ELO - Evil Woman
Gowan - Guerilla Soldier
Martin Solveig feat. Dragonette - Boys & Girls
Yazoo - Only You
John Fogerty - Centerfield

Re: The 'Post Your Five Random Tunes' Thread
Five tracks from my ride in today, from a classic rock playlist I built on Play Music (with some of my own stuff) last year:
Synchronicity 1: The Police - I put this on the playlist because of the absolutely terrific drum part on this song, it's really driving.
SWLABR: Cream - this popped up on shuffle, such a great fuzzy guitar sound.
The Cradle Will Rock: Van Halen - this is a surprisingly strange song for a Van Halen single. It rocks.
The Rover: Zeppelin - underrated track, sounds surprisingly modern to me. Great production on Physical Graffiti.
Looks That Kill: Crue - one of my favorite 80s rock songs, I was happy this popped up.

Re: The 'Post Your Five Random Tunes' Thread
Thanks for sharing, Hiro11. 'Looks That Kill' is a pretty kick-ass track...been a while since I've heard that one.
I have a rather short drive to work (typically 10 minutes), so I usually get to listen to two or three songs at most. Here's a mix of what I heard this morning and some others I've caught on other drives:
As I mentioned in the OP, anyone and everyone is free to join in with whatever songs you've come across in your travels, regardless of the source. If you prefer to just drop by to see what new music that others and I post here, you're welcome to do that, too.

Re: The 'Post Your Five Random Tunes' Thread
My five for today:
Ah, music is a crazy and wondrous thing, isn't it? So many factors go into how well a singer or band is known amongst a particular crowd.
I can relate: I went to high school with a guy who just could not wrap his mind around why I never heard of the Yellow Magic Orchestra(*). 'What do you mean you've never heard of them?' he would say. 'They're FAMOUS!'
According to him and like-minded people, the YMO was probably the greatest thing since the combustion engine. To me, they were a band with an odd name whose music I was completely unfamiliar with.
But that's what makes the world go around: Asian Electronica will have their fans, just as Country Music will have theirs, the same with Death Metal, Polka Music, K-pop, German Opera, etc etc etc.
If you're not familiar with some of the songs or artists in this thread (or this forum for that matter), that's OK...even the most well-rounded of music connoisseurs aren't going to know it all. I find threads like this great for getting a peek inside the musical tastes of other people and for discovering new (or perhaps not-so-new) music.

- Tal Bachman - Aeroplane
- Real Life - Send Me An Angel
- Def Leppard - Move With Me Slowly
- Aerosmith - Janey's Got a Gun
- White Town - Your Woman

Re: The 'Post Your Five Random Tunes' Thread
The fact that someone else started a similar thread a few years back gives me cause for relief. I find that with original ideas, sometimes you're the first one with it because others who thought of it realized pretty quickly it was a dumb-ass idea and kept it to themselves.
Since I'm here and since I did a lot of driving in the past couple of days, here are five more tunes:
- Chromeo - Jealous (I Ain't With It)
- Journey - Wheel in the Sky
- The Original Caste - One Tin Soldier
- New Order - Bizarre Love Triangle
- Kansas - Point of Know Return [came across this one on an old commercial for, of all things, an insurance company]

Re: The 'Post Your Five Random Tunes' Thread
On another retro kick this morning:
World Party: "Way Down Now", a great Stones-ish uptempo song from the early ninties. This is off of "Goodbye Jumbo" which I think is one of the great forgotten albums of the time.
Screaming Blue Messiahs: "Sweet Water Pools", a kick ass crunchy rock track from a band unfairly considered a novelty act.
Josie Cotton: "Johnny Are You Queer?", I can't tell if it's offensive or respectful but the chorus and refrain is simply undeniable in this song. Also has tight guitar riffing. Made famous by Valley Girl.
Sparks: "Beat The Clock", hilarious song by one of the weirdest bands in history.
Bruce Springsteen: "Candy's Room", might be my favorite Boss song.

My car iPod smart playlist is NeverHeard - up to 25GB of random music, excluding podcasts and Christmas songs, with a play count of 0 in my itunes. (seems like each time I get close to 0, something happens to my computer and resets play counts.)
Anyway - last five tracks heard from that playlist -
Einstuerzende Neubauten - Der Kuss
Lacrimosa - Ein Hauch von Menschlichkeit (coincidental, German-language music is a small set of my lists)
David Bowie - After Today
Alice Cooper - I Am the Future
Styx - Rockin' the Paradise
Oh man, I might have to dig up my Billy Joel Greatest Hits tape.
I've been looking to discover some new (to me) music, thanks for this thread.
Every band is someone's favorite.
