Weezer -- The White Album

re: Weezer -- The White Album
Its oddly coincidental how all of Weezer's self titled albums seem to be their best. The only exception seems to be Pinkerton. Their other albums range in quality quite a bit.

Eh, I may give this a listen. I'm a casual Weezer fan. Like their 90's stuff, not so much anything since. Maybe a song or two per album.
The single Thank God for Girls sucks, so my expectations are mild.

Not a bad album but like their last couple not much really jumps out at me as really memorable. It's fine to listen to but not one I'll probably feel the need to go back and revisit.

I still think their last really good album was their self titled Red Album. They've had some good singles since then but the albums on a whole have been very hit and miss with me.

I thought the album just was okay when I first listened to it, but it's been growing on me with repeat listens. (I still like their last one better, though.)
Rivers was on a couple of podcasts lately:
Song Exploder - dissecting "Summer Elaine and Drunk Dori"
All Songs Considered - playing guest DJ, discussing the new album and its influences
Dude's got an interesting songwriting process. One word: spreadsheets.

I've listened to it a few times and I dunno it isn't bad but it still isn't doing much for me. I just find it kind of boring and like I mentioned earlier there aren't any tracks that really stand out to me as being memorable. I found the same to be true of their last album too. I like Weezer but just feel like they've lost something. Its like they tried to go way too mainstream for a while and it didn't entirely work and now they're back to their roots more and the songs are better but still not classic.

re: Weezer -- The White Album
I've been pretty much devouring the White Album over the last several weeks and now think it surpasses EWBAITE. I'm loving this thing. It's my summer jam.
I'm going to see them at Virginia Beach on Wednesday. It'll be my first Weezer show and I'm pretty pumped. I'd prefer seeing them locally, indoors (I HATE the VA heat/humidity), and not co-headlining, but this is Weezer and I'm a realist. There's a good chance that the next album they tour to support will be sub-par.
The setlist doesn't seem to be changing at all night to night, but it's pretty solid. I'd replace a song here or there - since it's a big hit single I accept the fact they have to play "Beverly Hills" - and I wish there were a couple more of the new ones.

I am so out of the loop. I haven't been to a large venue show by a big act in a long time. Turns out nowadays you can pre-order your merch and pick it up at the show so you don't have to wait in line. Technology is grand!
