The Primitives - Spin-O-Rama (2014)
No, not an ode to Denis Savard, but rather the first original album by the UK buzz-pop band The Primitives in 23 years. They had a minor hit with "Crash" way back in 1988, and I always loved this genre of Brit-pop (along with The Darling Buds and Voice of the Beehive). The first single is the title track, Spin-O-Rama:

Man, they look and sound just like they did back in the 80s. In a good way. When I see a lot of bands from my teenage years re-form, it's always a letdown when you see the singer is now fat and old, gravelly voiced, and can barely move while onstage. I see that video above and it's hard to believe it's been more than 25 years since their great albums Lovely and Pure. Tracy Tracy has barely aged a day, and still has that lilting vocal styling that made The Primitives such a notable band.
I've been listening to the record (CD, actually....the vinyl is a bit hard to find and very expensive still) all day, and it's my favorite release of 2014.

I've been listening to this too. I think "Crash" is one of the best pop songs of all time, and Pure is still one of my all-time favorite albums (as is Voice of the Beehive's Let It Bee). As far as this album goes, "Spin-O-Rama" and "Petals" are highlights, but I don't think it compares to their earlier stuff... which bums me out. Still, it's nice to have even a handful of enjoyable new Primitives songs. Here's hoping for more!

Wow, I'd almost forgotten about this band. I loved their first album.

I really like this new non-album track with lead vocals by guitarist Paul
