STATIC-X Frontman WAYNE STATIC Dead At 48
Singer/guitarist Wayne Static (born Wayne Richard Wells) of the industrial metal band STATIC-X has passed away at the age of 48. His death was confirmed by Wayne's publicists at FiXT Publicity.
No further details are currently available, but some of Wayne's associates have indicated that his passing may have been the result of a drug overdose.

Wayne Static died on Saturday evening, just before the longtime Static X frontman was set to take his new band on tour.
There was little information on the circumstances surrounding Static’s death, though some close to the singer have hinted that it was related to his substance abuse. Papa Roach frontman Jacoby Shaddix bemoaned Statics death, writing, “addiction is real and takes fools out.”
The band Static X announced Static’s death with a message to its Facebook page:
Platinum selling musician Wayne Richard Wells, better known as WAYNE STATIC, passed away at the age of 48.
WAYNE STATIC was the enigmatic former frontman and namesake of Static-X, who later forged a successful solo career. Wayne was scheduled to co-headline tours with Powerman 5000 and Drowning Pool over the next several months.
No additional information is available at this time.

Yeah, I saw this come through my feed a couple of hours ago while I was at the New Politics show in Hollywood. He was my doppleganger for like 10 years or so. The early reports are saying that it was a drug overdose, which if that's the case it was a habit that was done under wraps for who knows how long. That, or it was a suicide. We won't know shit until they do an autopsy.
Fuck. His birthday was in like 4 days or so.

I liked Static-X quite a bit when I was in high school, but hadn't thought much of them in probably a decade. After I heard about his death I went to their Wiki page and saw they actually broke up twice. Had no idea.
RIP dude.

I'd be surprised if it were a suicide because he seemed genuinely excited about his tour that was about to start.

I heard the news today and was quite surprised. I used to like the band back in college but hadn't listened to them in ages.

Funny isn't it? Normally we view 48 as somewhat old....when someone dies at that age it's like..."Shit, he was so damn young".
Sucks - they had some tunes I dug.

I used to really like Static-X, they were one of my first live concerts and I've seen them quite a few times. The first two albums were fantastic, and I liked each subsequent one a little less than the previous. Once Wayne got married, the live shows went rapidly downhill. His wife would come onstage to strip and dance, and fucking hula-hoop. I like boobs as much as the next guy, but it was really out of place at the shows, and the rest of the band seemed to suffer.
Anyway, 48 is young, especially if he was actually clean. Of course, people said Oderus was clean, and look how that turned out.

I was a big fan (and still am) of WDT; great album that paved some new roads. I stopped listening to them after Machine (also good) but I've been revisiting their catalog since Wayne's death and it still holds up.
Current rumor is this was NOT drug related, but again we won't know anything until the autopsy.

And now his wife is dead, too. Apparent suicide.

I'll watch "Lesbian Ass Eaters" tonight on pornhub in tribute to her.

I'm curious how they're gong to pull off the live shows. Wayne was, for all intents and purposes, the main aspect of Static-X. Lineup changes notwithstanding, he had the unique voice, look, and mannerisms. I've always like Tony's playing and stage presence, the other two weren't anything overly special to me.
That said, I'll probably go check it out live.
