Jimi Jamison (Survivor) Dead at 63

Jimi Jamison
Survivor Lead Singer
Dead at 63

Jimi Jamison -- who was the lead singer for the bands Cobra and Survivor -- passed away Sunday night. He was 63.

Jamison's booking manager, Sally Irwin, tells TMZ that Jamison died of a heart attack.

Jamison joined Survivor in 1984 (after they found success with "Eye of the Tiger") but was the lead singer on other classic songs like, "The Moment of Truth" (from "The Karate Kid"), "The Search Is Over," "Burning Heart" (from "Rocky IV) and "Is This Love."

Jamison was also the co-writer and vocalist for the song "I'm Always Here" ... the theme song from "Baywatch."
Big fan of the band and the guy had one hell of a voice.

Was fortunate enough to see Survivor once. I always thought of them as a 'theme band'.
Most of what they wrote were great songs that you always knew when they came on the radio.

Btw, OP's quote from TMZ mentions Jamison joined Survivor in 1984, after Eye of The Tiger. The original lead singer the band for Eye of the Tiger was Dave Bickler, who also did the Budweiser "Real Men of Genius" radio commercials.
Wikipedia also said the latest version of Survivor had Jamison and Bickler in the band together.

This is bugging me. Listening to some Survivor on YT and the playlist lands on 'High on You'
Wasn't this song used in a movie. It just sounds so familiar to a movie. I know it played a lot in the '80s on radio but I know I heard this on a soundtrack.

All true. Would have liked to see that combo tour, but It didn't happen.

Many songs in movies, but I don't think that was one of them. But honestly, it's easy to get their songs confused because many from the two album era when they hit it big were very similar. Their greatest hits albums have had reviews that said it was like one long song.

Man I know I heard it. I was thinking like Vision Quest but I know that's not it.
They only had like 3-4 songs in movies though from what IMDB shows.

I had no idea that "Eye of the Tiger" and "Burning Heart" featured different singers.

I thought Survivor was one of the rare bands that changed its lead singer for the better.

The OG singer left due to him messing up his vocal cords or something and he also didn't like the direction the band was heading.

I also had no idea that Eye of the Tiger was sung by a different singer.

Jamison's heart must have just gave out after living the rocker lifestyle so many years.

I love the Baywatch theme that he sang. Was pissed when the DVD release by First Look from several years ago dropped it for some generic filler. I sold all of them in disgust.
