King Crimson Reunite for 9 City Tour
King Crimson is "reuniting" for a 17 show tour in 9 cities. Are you lucky?
(Ironic considering Robert Fripp said just last year: "My life as a professional musician is a joyless exercise in futility.")
But whatever, I saw them in the 80s? with the Bruford, Fripp, Levin, Belew lineup and it was great.
Lineup (3 drummers!):
Dates:
I'll be hitting a Kimmel Center show which I believe is a sometimes opera house. Should be great.

Lineup (3 drummers!):
The new Crimson lineup features Fripp reuniting with bass god Tony Levin and drummer-percussionist veterans Pat Mastelotto and Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree). The trio will be joined by eclectic drummer Bill Rieflin (R.E.M., Nine Inch Nails), guitarist-vocalist Jakko Jakszyk and woodwind legend Mel Collins.

Re: King Crimson Reunite for 9 City Tour
Thank the gods...I want KC to sound like Greg Lake, Gordon Haskell, or John Wetton KC, not the fucking Talking Heads...
EDIT: Eh...looking at the line up more closely, this is going to suck. I saw them open for Tool some years ago (I had already seen Tool twice, so I was super-hyped for KC), and, frankly, they sucked . I don't expect much better. They really need Bruford behind the kit...

I'm pretty interested in anything Fripp and Levin come up with. And Mel Collins of all people. They should break out the Mellotron too.
Wikipedia:
The new line-up formally ended Adrian Belew's thirty-two year tenure as King Crimson's frontman, as he was not invited to rejoin the band (due to Fripp considering him "not right" for the new approach).
The current band consists of four musicians from the previous 2009 line-up (Fripp, Tony Levin, Gavin Harrison and Pat Mastelotto) plus new frontman Jakko Jakszyk (lead vocals, guitar), Mel Collins (saxophones, flutes), and Bill Rieflin (drums).[75] Collins is a returning King Crimson member, having previously played in the band's 1971 line-up. Rieflin is a multi-instrumentalist who has previously played drums for REM, Ministry and others (as well as recording a 1999 album with Fripp and Trey Gunn, called The Repercussions Of Angelic Behavior). The new line-up encompasses the Jakszyk-fronted team which recorded A Scarcity of Miracles two years previously, but it has not been revealed whether any new King Crimson materials or approaches will have any continuity with the ...Scarcity... material.

Shit, this and Danny Elfman coming back for Halloween to L.A.? It's gonna get expensive up in herrrr! I was at the Orpheum for the Machete premiere a few years ago. Great venue.

Listen to "A Scarcity of Miracles" and then back to us. How KC could go from their brilliance in the 70s to all the crap afterwards is a mystery (to me at least...).

Does anyone even know what the set will be like? Until then, panties should probably remain un-bunched.

I loved KC's output through the '80s. They took a dip in the '90s but The Power To Believe was an excellent album (and their last with Belew, it would appear).

Nope. I would if those little fuckers were on my lawn though.
In the meantime, perhaps your young ears should develop some musical taste .

Eh. As should be obvious, I highly disagree. Their 80s stuff was a huge disappointment, except for maybe a few tunes on Discipline , which are just *ok*. I tend towards Lizard (their best in my opinion) and the Lake and Wetton eras. Islands is good, too.

This tour will feature some of the finest musicians out there. I really don't give a shit how true they are to the old shit revered by the old and close-minded fans. I expect the performances to be well worth the price of admission.
If you think musicians of that caliber just want to keep playing things the same way they were played 40 years ago, you really don't know anything about musicians.

You know honestly, just stop trolling. It's the same with you in any thread related to prog music.

Fine musicians... if the music sucks, who fucking cares? I'd rather not know anything about them . And, you really should read what you just wrote, and look in the mirror (and maybe open your mind to some of the hundreds of brilliant prog bands out there...). Have fun at the show!

Did I miss the part where they said this is a Scarcity of Miracles tour? That record is 3 years old. Yeah, it's all the same musicians, but this being billed as King Crimson. I'm going to go out on a limb and say this show might just feature King Crimson songs. Sure there's a chance they'll throw in a song or two from SoM (which I just heard and agree isn't too great), but that's hardly a deterrent to going.
