Gene Simmons should just buy the RnRHOF and then close it down.

Nirvana never got close to making an album as good as Let it Be or Tim and "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is thin gruel compared to "Unsatisfied" or "Bastards of Young".
I never said Nirvana wrote anything as good as Paul Westerberg. But they did have more of an influence on the pantheon of rock history than the Replacements.

I know there is serious post-Replacements love just like The Pixies. The Pixies are bigger now than they ever were back in the day. I don't see The Replacements as some major influential band say the way R.E.M. was or even Husker Du. (Although, they did write the epic masterpiece, Gary's Got a Boner.) Let It Be and Tim etc are just straight forward rock records - nothing innovative or new. I know, my opinion. (and for the record, The Pixies? Way more influential than The Replacements.)

As an aside, my wife and I were talking about all the times we saw Elvis Costello and I recalled one time that she didn't remember. I dug through my archives and found the flyer and was astonished to see that The Replacements opened that night. So I saw The Replacements, which is cool, but don't remember a damn thing.

As another aside, I went back and listened to In Utero recently and was pleasantly surprised. I never listened much to Nirvana back when they were around. Kurt Cobain was doing some really interesting, innovative stuff on that record. I think he would have made some good shit.

You're such a stunted individual.

Kiss and Nirvana for me.

Nirvana even did a cover of Do You Love Me? years ago.

Wonder if he has thought of that yet?

Looking at that list, I am stunned that Hall & Oates isn't in there yet. I figured they were inducted years ago.

And KISS should have been put in years ago as well but that is all I will say about that.

N.W.A. wouldn't bother me. They definitely had an influence on future rappers as well as many rockers. They are the most important rap group ever in my opinion.

NWA over RUN DMC ? Not sure how many would agree with that but NWA made way for people like 2Pac and Biggie who made it bigger than anyone in the rap game.

Re: 2014 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominees announced

Have they changed the process for selecting nominees? Seems to be full of well known but neglected bands. A fair number of "heavy" acts, no Motown, and no obvious eye-rolls. Do they have a new committee, or did they just out of bands Jann Wenner wanted to have sex with in the 1970's?

I wish they'd change the name to Music Hall of Fame or something, just so I don't have to come across posts every year asking "since when is [insert non-rock performer(s) here] Rock 'n Roll?!".

Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't KISS, or at least Gene Simmons, repeatedly claimed that they didn't want to be inducted into the RaRHOF?

Of course there's no doubt in my mind that when/if they are put in, Gene will be up there grandstanding.

I be happy if Deep Purple and Peter Gabriel get in.

He's claimed he doesn't care about it but Paul has said many times that he would be there "for the fans" if they finally got inducted.

So in others words, he too doesn't really care.
I know many think KISS do not, or should not be in the RRHF but remember they do say 'influential' and without KISS, you dont have bands like Poison, RATT, Motley Crue and all the other hair metal/glam bands. Like them or not, they still owe a great deal to KISS and I think they should stand tall for all those who they inspired.

I'm not even sure where to start with you. Her nickname was the "First Lady of Rock". She is 100% rock and roll.

I have never considered Linda Rondstadt a "rock & roll" artist.

Prove me wrong via the art of music performed as rock.

If it involves Gene and money, he's definitely thought about it.

I'm really surprised that we're having this discussion. I don't think anyone has ever complained before about the RaRHoF putting in people who aren't rock and roll enough.
