Re: The VINYL Thread!

I bought a used copy of Pink Floyd Animals over the weekend. Still had weed stuck to the creases inside.

I'd say I have about 300-400 albums from the vinyl era and then about 25 "new" vinyl releases.

ONTRAC delivered mine and they didn't even bother to knock. I only saw that it had been delivered, because the tracking status said "Left on front door."

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I would like to get into vinyl, any recommendations on which player I should get? I already have a good home theater system with a receiver that already has phono inputs. My budget is around $150 or less.

I went barebones and straight-up analog without the USB option and it's Phono compatible.

It's the basic Audio Technica turntable

It's a pretty cool little machine and at that price you could buy one every year and it would still be worth it. IMO.

I agree with Why So Blu?, stick with Audio Technica.

I'm still debating over whether I should get this album or not. I go back and forth.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Thanks for the Audio Technica recommendation. I'm going to get that as a wedding gift for a friend of mine, along with a few of her favorite albums on vinyl.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Sony also has a Turntable, if color is a factor. The price is also comparable. I forget if the Audio Technica has a feature or two that the Sony one does not have, though.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Since Amazon autorip now applies to vinyl, I used it as an excuse to order a few albums, including "If You're Feeling Sinister" by Belle & Sebastian, "Fear Fun" by Father John Misty, "Reign of Terror" by Sleigh Bells, "Slave Ambient" by The War on Drugs, and "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea" by Neutral Milk Hotel.

Great sounding record. Got two copies at the gallery opening. Both I had signed by the artist Tyler Stout. One I was able to trade for Mondo's first vinyl release, Maniac.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

^ Good to hear. I've got one coming my way. I believe they had said that they would be shipping those out to people the first week of April, so here's hoping it gets here soon. Did you score a pink variant?

No Pink. But if I want one I think I can get it from a local shop.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I'm thinking about switching to entirely vinyl purchases. Most of my listening these days is either mp3s in my car or my turntable at home. Generally new vinyl seems to come with mp3 downloads (or the Amazon autorip thing or both) anyway.

I'm not a music mod, so I can't. You're just going to have to live with the proof of your shame.

I got the Neutral Milk Hotel album too.

I bought a bunch of B&S albums direct from Matador. Better prices. I originally ordered Sinister from Matador because they had the 180g version but went out of stock after I ordered. The Amazon copy is 120g (not that it matters that much). I also wanted Dear Catastrophe Waitress and Elusive Disc seemed to be the only place that had it.

I've been leaning that way too. And I'm one of the people that can't tell the difference, I just like the old-timey packaging.

Anyone ordering the new Flaming Lips album on vinyl? I'm assuming the one on Amazon is the same as the one on Flaming Lips website. But Amazon's descriptions and reviews of vinyl are maddeningly incomplete.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Gah, you're right, If You're Feeling Sinister is cheaper at Matador, but only by $4. I'm not even seeing Dear Catastrophe Waitress on the Matador site, but it's over $30 on Amazon right now. OOP?

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Speaking of Matador records, I think I might take a gamble on the Savages LP just to see what's up with that female rock group.

Why not listen to it on Spotify first to see if you like it?
