Looks like Amazon is finally going to ship my Blade Runner set. Delivery on May 21st.

Also Random Access Memories is now listed as an autorip album.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Picked up the Savages album this morning. Great sound, really good music and $14.00 for the clear vinyl with free download. Highly recommended

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Going to Amoeba today, got some credit to burn through. I will probably spend it mainly on disco records.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I'll post the full list of my purchases later, but I just snagged a UK 1st pressing of For Your Pleasure by Roxy Music, and I am extraordinarily pleased about it.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I pre-ordered the vinyl re-issue of STP's Purple, which I'm really excited to get. I want their first 5 albums on vinyl, but Purple is definitely a great start. Maybe Tiny Music will be next?

Re: The VINYL Thread!

As far as I know now, just Purple is being re-issued. I get a bunch of emails from online vinyl vendors, that caught my eye, and I couldn't help buy pre-order. As of yesterday, the release isn't showing on Amazon yet, but soundstagedirect.com has it.

Amazon does have it but it's $40 and listed as an import.

I still have my original copy on purple vinyl I bought back when it was first released. I too hope that they put the other albums out. Core and Tiny Music only got released as foreign or promo copies, so the prices for those run on the high side.

That's because Music On Vinyl, the label it's being re-issued on, is a UK based company, and hence the higher cost. Wait until it actually get's released and check some of the secondary market sellers if you want it cheaper. The_Connection is a good one I've used several times for paying half as much as Amazon themselves are charging.

I've bought from The_Connection but their delivery times are horrid.

Never had that problem with them, myself. Still, I'd take waiting an extra week or so to get something for half of what most others are charging for it.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Went to Amoeba on Saturday, had $200 in credit. This was my haul (all are original issue):

Lou Reed: New York
R.E.M.: Reckoning
Patti Smith: Easter
Yellow Magic Orchestra: X∞ Multiples
Talk Talk: It's My Life
Kate Bush: Never For Ever
The Velvet Underground: Loaded
Talking Heads: Speaking In Tongues, limited edition (photos below)
Roxy Music: For Your Pleasure (1st pressing, UK edition, photos below)
David Bowie: Young Americans (Textured cover)
Rick James: Glow
Sister Sledge: We Are Family
Donna Summer: Once Upon A Time
The The: Infected
XTC: The Big Express
Prince: Sign O' The Times

Roxy Music:

Talking Heads:

Sadly, there is some gunk on the Speaking In Tongues. I may need to get a wet record cleaner to try and clean that.

If you're not looking to drop a fortune, I recommend the Spin Clean.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

My Primus and Daft Punk vinyls are "shipping now," so I should have them in the morning. I usually get my stuff out of North Las Vegas from Amazon. With PRIME, they're pretty much overnighted, which is why PRIME rocks.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

My Daft Punk is also shipping now, with delivery by 8 PM tomorrow. And I should finally be getting my Blade Runner vinyl tomorrow as well. Good day for my record player!

I've been circling that one for a while now. Obviously at $80 it's much cheaper than the $650+ cleaners, but I'm not sure I even want to drop the $80. I do have a brush and sticky roller coming. Since Speaking In Tongues is the only record I have with actual gunk on it, I might just wash that one by hand.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I know this is partially an OCD-thing, but I think you'll be amazed at the dirt and grime that will come off of any record, even those that look spotless. I'll even run a new LP through the Spin Clean, just to avoid having anything gunk up my stylus.

I bought Reckoning and New York when they came out. The Big Express is one of my most treasured albums of all time.

How much did they get for that Roxy Music album? I don't think mine is an original.

Just got my haul and was lucky enough to get the "cheddar cheese" yellow Primus vinyl.

Sadly, the inside sleeves are just regular paper. I thought I saw some graphics on the record unveiling video. Oh well.

$80. For a mint condition UK first pressing, I was willing to go for it.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

My new cleaning method is cheap and works: take one clean sponge and use some lukewarm water and mild detergent. Clean the record with that. Rinse it with lukewarm water. Dry it with a paper towel. Set it on a terry cloth towel to dry the label.

Simple. Cheap. Effective. Surprisingly doesn't mess up the record or the label. I've done this on some pretty old records with great success.
