Streaming now. LOVE the opening track. I really hope there are some live appearances planned.

I'm on my second listen now. I think this is better than Reality, maybe on par with Heathen. Either way, it's fantastic.

wow, WAWN still hasn't grown on you? I admit the first listen I wasn't crazy for it, but within two days I adored it. Probably listened to it 100 times

I found this song somewhat unremarkable when I first heard it, but I like it much better in the context of the album. But I also really like "The Loneliest Guy", so there you go .

I'm not skipping over WAWN, which is more than I can say about The Loneliest Guy, but there are some really awkward lines that turn me off.

I was trying to go through all of his studio albums chronologically, got burned out after that 70's cover album which I wasn't a huge fan of. I know and love many of his subsequent songs, so I will continue this journey soon.

But I did pre-order the deluxe version of this one.

But looking at the list, I actually went up to and including Young Americans. It's funny, I'd hear my Dad putting on lots of music as a kid, but Bowie is so diverse, that it wasn't until 2011 that I found out he was the guy who did Rebel Rebel and Fame.

Same way I totally did not know The Beatles did Twist and Shout until Beatles Rock Band. I dunno, it just sounded different.

Really digging this album so far. He *has* to tour again. Just one more time. And not just one fucking show in London and NYC.

Pin-Ups is a fun album, but not essential.

Meanwhile, bluetoast, you stopped just before his best run of albums, Station To Station, Low, "Heroes", Lodger, and Scary Monsters! Go listen to all of those now.

Man, that's it, I'm on it. Going to get a month of Spotify Premium so I don't have ads. Been listening to Stars are out Tonight practically on repeat, I'll go to Station to Station now.

One question: Is he one of those 60's-70's artists that gets sucked into the synth black hole of the 80's?

Edit: And already, Golden Years is another of those tracks that I'd heard but never knew was Bowie.

Getting to experience Station to Station for the first time = I hate you

Yeah, Pin Ups isn't essential or a "fan favorite" but it's a helluva fun album. I guess it's just heresy to me.

Re: Bowie is back!!! First album in 10 years in March

I've listened to it twice already, the tracks seem to meld together, but the first one and Golden Years are my favorites so far. Will revisit it again this weekend, but I'm going on to Low.

I'll give Pin Ups another listen soon as well. I'm on a tear now, so why not.

Edit: Low was ok.

Low is possibly Bowie's best album.

I'll definitely give it more listens. Aladdin Sane grew on me after the first few listens.

I have to agree. The whole Berlin trilogy features some of this best work, but the "Low" album especially is him at what I consider his peak. In addition, the "Stage" live album is equally fantastic to me, and it has one of the best live bands backing him since the Ziggy days.

Also worth listening to are "The Idiot" and "Lust For Life" by Iggy Pop. Bowie produced both albums, co-wrote most of the songs, and most of his band plays on the two albums.

Depends on whether you lean to the darker, more atmospheric Bowie or the more pop oriented side of Hunky Dory and Ziggy Stardust. Both unbeatable for sheer songcraft.

Is anybody else a huge fan of Uncle Arthr and Love You Till Tuesday? I don't hear much about them but that was a hell of a debut for a 20 year old.

Hence the "possibly".

Re: Bowie is back!!! First album in 10 years in March

I'm a Lodger/Scary Monsters-era fan myself (though honestly the man could do no wrong from 1970-1980) and I think this new one has the right mix of callbacks to that era and keeping with his recent efforts like Heathen. Good stuff... gets better with every listen. SOOO glad to have the man back.
