Paul Well last night at The Fonda.
Amazing show! His guitarist (Steve Craddock from Ocean Colour Scene) is one my favorite all time guitar players, so as much as I like Weller (and I like him a lot), seeing Craddock go off was a real treat.
This is from the night before at the same venue.

Just got back from seeing The Darkness at The Glass House. Boy, did they rock! Justin is in great shape and hit all of the right notes. I'm glad I finally got to see them live - it's been more than 10 years since I Believe In A Thing Called Love premiered.

Marshall Crenshaw solo.
I don't know his work that well, but I remembered he was kind of critically acclaimed in the 80's--I like his basic genre, and he was playing for $25 in my town (at a world-class performance hall).
I was a little underwhelmed. He's a great musician and talented songwriter--but he sounded more like he was playing for friends rather than really putting on a tight performance. He would put in some pretty complex guitar flourishes in his songs, but they almost seemed a little TOO complex--they interrupted the flow of the songs, at times. And he never really hit any terrible notes with his voice, but he seemed a LITTLE bit off-pitch fairly often--and other times his voice was really strong and spot-on. I think he was fighting a cold, and maybe it was just an off night. I can't put my finger on it exactly, but he didn't seem at the top of his game.

Went to see Soulfly in Joliet on Sunday. Swedish metal band Soilwork was the opening act.

Just got back from Club Nokia. New Politics were cool but I am not an Andre McMahon fan. We stayed for the first two songs then left. Fuck that.
Next week is Ghost time!

I saw Gwen Stefani on Saturday. Not really a huge fan of her pop solo stuff, but I've loved her and No Doubt for a long time. It blows my mind she is 46 years old. She looks incredible.

Saw Colin Hay last night in Bloomington, IN. Solo acoustic show, performing songs from his own repertoire as well as a few Men At Work classics. Wonderful show.
Certain songs had photo montages displayed behind him. This pic was from the performance of "Waiting For My Real Life To Begin", which showed photos from his early years to MAW to recent pics.

Saw Cannibal Corpse and Cattle Decapitation last week. I'm more of an 80s thrash metal kind of guy, but I am learning to appreciate death metal more as I attend these shows. The guy in front of me kept yelling at me every time I got shoved forward into him, I looked at him like "you've got to be kidding me" like I can control the mosh pit behind me.

Prior to this, the last concert we attended was New Found Glory back in 2005, haha.

Re: What concert did you recently attend?
You ever get pissed off at a show, like why are so many crappy bands able to fill stadiums, and brilliant artists can barely make a living?
Alejandro Escovedo played in my town tonight---and the place wasn't even sold out. It was just him with an acoustic guitar, and a cello player. He ranged from his alt-country stuff, to bringing out the electric for some full-on punk tunes. Great storyteller, great stage presence, awesome performer. I'd highly recommend seeing him if he comes around.

The Nate Ruess show I went to on Friday night was incredible. Very high energy performance and had the crowd eating out of the palm of his hand all night. I honestly don't think there was a person in the venue not singing along the entire time. His band was great and Nate is legitimately one of the best singers out there at the moment, IMO.
