What concert did you recently attend?

Re: What concert did you recently attend?
Saw Belle & Sebastian and Yo La Tengo Wednesday night. B & S have been on my list of must-sees for a while now. First time they were in Philly since 2006 I think.
Needless to say, they were way better than I thought based on live DVDs I've seen. They had a full 13-pc band with strings. They were extremely tight and it was a really fun show. I had my way with the hipsters and moved right up front and center.

Saw Belle & Sebastian at the Ottawa Bluesfest last week and enjoyed them as well. Also saw Neko Case and the Dixie Chicks that night. Next night, saw Paul McCartney (at the Canadian Tire Centre, not Bluesfest). Enjoyed all concerts.

has Belle and Sebastian 'live' gotten any louder - the last time I saw, at the Black Cat here in DC, the show was too quiet, literally everyone watching couldn't talk or clink glasses, cause it would be construed as being too loud or obnoxious.

It was loud and extremely energetic. They only played a couple mellow songs. 13 piece band - it'd be hard to be quiet. Outside venues too.
Yo La Tengo was mellower and quieter, believe it or not.

Re: What concert did you recently attend?
Saw a couple seminal bands for the first time this week.
Wire last night. I only have a couple of their later 80s releases, and I don't know their catalog very well. They sounded really tight, and it was a cool mix of hard-edged stuff with more experimental tracks. Cool seeing them, as I didn't really have a visual image in mind of what the band looked like. The downside was that I hardly recognized any of the tracks. I thought it was just because I didn't know them that well, but one of my buddies is a big Wire fan, and he said he only recognized about 3 songs the whole night. I guess it was a lot of new stuff, plus some more obscure tracks. Good show, though.
The Specials on Thursday night. This goes into my top 5 shows ever. Conversely, I knew EVERY track they played really well, and they sounded so friggin' awesome. I can't imagine they sounded better than this in 1980. My favorites are Gangsters, Concrete Jungle and Ghost Town, and it was so great to hear all three of those, sounding fantastic.
Seeing these two bands got me thinking about aging rock bands. To a large extent, most of the older acts I see sound really good. I think if they've played continually---and not died---they've generally become better musicians than they were in their youth, and they're past the drug and alcohol craziness. And, the equipment and sound systems are better. Also, maybe THEY appreciate the whole thing more, as they're older. I never saw either of these bands before, but they both seemed pretty humble, grateful and having a good time.

Last weekend I saw Tegan & Sara with FUN. Fun was phenomenal live - really impressed the hell out of me.
Last night I saw Passion Pit & Weezer. It was a blue album memories show, so I was pretty much in heaven

Re: What concert did you recently attend?
I was considering going to the show in Detroit but didn't for 2 reasons.
1) Its midweek and pretty far from me factoring in after work traffic.
2) It was billed as a Fun. show with special guests Tegan & Sara. I don't mind a few songs by Fun. but if I went to the show it would have been for Tegan & Sara.

Nice selection of songs from them. I love Now I'm All Messed Up from the new album and Living Room is a fun little song.
Kind of bummed I am not going to the show.. I'll have to look out for them touring again next year or whenever they tour again.

Drove 2 hours to this show. The sound guy needs to be fired. Not sure how you mess up the vocals/mic for one of the biggest shows your venue will get all year.

Upcoming concert. Going to see City and Colour in November in Detroit. He added a second show on a Saturday so that will be easier to go to. The first show is 7pm on a Friday which is hard to do after working a full day.

Adam Ant at the Grove in Anaheim last night. Good mix of old and new material. His voice still has its upper range as well so he can still hit those notes .

2nd row for Robert Plant last night. Great show but unfortunately they had to cut what likely would have been "Big Log" (based on recent set lists) from the encore to beat the curfew. That has always been my favorite song from his solo work so that was a bummer.

Re: What concert did you recently attend?
Went to Pitchfork in Chicago over the weekend. Bjork Friday night. Great show, cut short due to weather.. Saturday saw The Breeders, Solange, and Belle and Sebastian. Breeders were lots of fun and I had forgotten how much I liked their music. Solange was good, nothing outstanding. B&S were great! I've seen them before but this time it was much more energetic. Even when it started to rain heavily, no one left and the band kept playing energetically. I didn't bother going Sunday with M.I.A. or R. Kelly.
