RIP Dan Peek, founding member of America
* Although America was considered to be a bit of a joke by the critical rock establishment due to their bland style of soft-rock/pop, I have to admit to being a fan of many of their songs (Sister Golden Hair, I Need You, Daisy Jane, Lonely People, etc.). It was nice to see America get some belated critical success when James Iha and Adam Schlesinger produced their last album (even though Peek had long since left the band).
RIP Dan Peek.

Dan Peek, a founding member of soft-rock trio America, which shot to the top of the pop charts in the 1970s with bouncy, lightweight hits including "A Horse With No Name," "Ventura Highway" and "Sister Golden Hair," died Sunday at his home in Farmington, Mo., outside St. Louis. He was 60.
Peek's wife, Catherine, found him dead in bed, his father, Milton Peek, told the Associated Press. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

That sucks; first time I was able to practically apply my studying of bossa nova was playing along to Tin Man, such a great song.

Sad to hear. The standouts for me are "Sister Golden Hair" and "Horse With No Name". They had a decent following in the mid 70's. This was when the Eagles were starting to kick in, Poco was doing well, Dan Fogelberg made a name for himslf. It was a acoustic era so to speak.
