Dredg

Has anyone heard of this band before? I saw that it was only $6.99 at best buy last week, so I decided to give it a shot. After hearing the song Bug Eyes, I was hooked.

The vocalist kind of sounds like the band Anberlin, and I just haven't been able to take this out of my cd player since listening to it.

If you can tell me of any other bands that have similar sounds like them, please let me know. You can listen to "Bug Eyes" at www.dredg.com.

I love Dredg and own all their albums. Awesome, awesome band. Each album seems to have more and more vocals. Their first album, leitmotif, is very nearly like one long orchestral song, sorta in the vein of trail of the dead's sourcetag's & codes but much more mellow, like sigur ros or godspeed or somethin. Wouldn't call them prog at all, but I guess they have somewhat progish inclinations. As I said, leitmotif blends together as one massive, cohesive song to a degree with a one or two burst-out hits. El Ceilo, their next album which came just one year later in 2002, was slightly more voice-oriented as it had more vocal songs and a bit more energy throughout. I especially liked how they had references to leitmotif in some of the songs.

I didn't know about this new album until this past month. A friend of mine went to their concert where they played songs from the upcoming album and he was raving about how each new song was amazing. At first listen I was somewhat speculative. The problem is that whereas with the first and second albums where there were those one or three "break out hits" I didn't notice anything particularly breaking in this new album. As it turns out that's because every single song is amazing.

heh, anyway, yeah, love this new album. It's my favorite of the year so far and I doubt even New Pornographers or Coheed and Cambria will knock it from its place on my list. It is just that good.

there's already a thread about these guys somewhere around here. But, to add to the conversation, Catch Without Arms is a fantastic album. I love how they've changed (yet not) from album to album. I've convinced a few people to give them a listen, and they've all been pretty impressed. If you like this album, you'll really enjoy El Cielo as well, but you may be adverse to Lietmotif, as it's, for lack of a better term, "heavier". More screaming, louder guitars, etc. This band deserves to get more recognition, and I think this album will definitely get them a lot more fans. I don't know what their next single is going to be, but I hope it's Planting Seeds. Amazing song.

I don't think it's exactly fair to say "more screaming" without qualifying it by saying that there's hardly any vocals in the album in the first place. It's not as if Lietmotif is a nonstop screamfest.

fair enough, but I also wouldn't say there's "hardly any vocals". The only tracks without vocals are the "movements" and those are rather short. *shrug*, either way, Lietmotif is definitely the least accessible of the three albums.

I just found out yesterday that the song "Bug Eyes" is on a soundtrack for some new movie. I can't remember which one, but it looks lame. Still good to see their name appearing more and more. It's just too bad that Universal has no idea how to market these guys. At least, that's how it is here in Canada.

I've been listening to them since before the major label debut. Fantastic band, seen them many times. Leitmotif is a brilliant album, and everything since has been fantastic as well.

I figured I'd revive the Dredg discussion. I love the new album, I picked it up for cheap a few months ago and really dig their sound.

If you want a cheap way to introduce yourself to their music (well, their newest album anyways) Best Buy is selling a DVD with concert footage (5-6 songs) and a music video. It's a penny-you can't beat that!

Re: Dredg

Bump!

Dredg has yet another new album out. Chuckles & Mr Squeezy

I'm listening to it right now, and I really like it. They've gotten further and further from their original sound, which is a little disappointing, but I'm glad they're still making music that I'll listen to. Also, I think I'll be going to their show on Dallas on the 28th. Fun!

Re: Dredg

Yeah, I noticed they have a free song on iTunes from this new album this week. I listened to samples from the rest of the album. I really enjoyed their last album - The Pariah, The Parrot, The Delusion, but I'm not sure about this new one. Maybe this one's a grower.

Re: Dredg

I've been a fan since a little bit after El Cielo came out. I have to say, I have yet to hear the whole thing, but I haven't really liked what I've heard from the new album. I certainly have no problems with bands changing, but I really liked their first 4 albums quite a bit, and this does nothing for me (so far). I'm hoping a listen or two of the album all the way through changes my thoughts, but I'm not nearly as excited about this release as I was their last two. One of my friends who is also a fan bought it yesterday and said he wasn't really thrilled by it either.

And after saying all of that, I've found it a real chore to listen to. I made it through about 4 tracks and then decided I would listen to the new Ulver instead. Maybe I'll pick up where I left off later.
