I would like it if they also gave the option of everything in one big set.

Also due out then will be their 1991 full-length debut "Gish" and the 1994 rarities collection "Pisces Iscariot." An exact release date has not been finalized.

Next year, Corgan and EMI will reissue the 1995 double album "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness," the 1996 five-disc boxed set "The Aeroplane Flies High" and 1998's commercial disappointment "Adore."

In 2013, the 2000 swan songs "Machina/The Machines of God" and "Machina II: The Friends & Enemies of Modern Music" will come out as one package. A hits package, presumably featuring such modern-rock radio staples as "1979," "Cherub Rock" and "Today," will also be released in 2013.

"What makes the deal with EMI groundbreaking is the band has secured the right to all unreleased materials and will be in charge of any additional releases based on our discretion," Corgan, the band's singer/songwriter/guitarist, said in a statement. "In essence, the band has the keys to the warehouse and can release whatever we want, when we want it."

The statement did not detail what bonus material would be included on the reissues.

Corgan is the only original member left in the Pumpkins, which he founded in Chicago in 1988. The band broke up in 2000, and Corgan reactivated the franchise in 2006 with a revolving cast of players and considerably less commercial success. The band is contemplating a tour in August, and plans to release a new album online in September, the statement said.

It was not immediately clear to what extent the former members of the classic lineup -- guitarist James Iha, bassist D'arcy Wretzky and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin -- would be involved in the reissue process.

And they have a ton of songs that only live versions are floating around out there. I'd like these to actually get real releases.

Like speed, for example.

The guy who was taping should have moved. Or spilled a drink on them so that they go spend the next hour at the bathroom.

Re: Smashing Pumpkins to reissue classic albums

In order of preference to me I would like:

Double Door/Metro SBDs
Songs that never officially got a release (Demos/live stuff) get a official release
Songs never before heard get a official release.

Re: Smashing Pumpkins to reissue classic albums

The release of new editions of 'Pisces Iscariot' and 'The Aeroplane Flies High' suggests that the extra b-sides from the first two records will be on the former's set and we might get truly unreleased - or, at least, previously very difficult to obtain proper copies of - material for the first two LPs, which would make me beyond happy as they're two of my favorite albums. No idea what they'd use to expand 'Aeroplane', though, unless they do some live material for that set and use demos and out-takes for 'Mellon Collie'?

Even though my patience for anything past 'Siamese Dream' has faded over the years - I listened to 'Mellon Collie' for the first time in ages a while back and found it pretty hard to get through, it has not aged well - I'll probably end up buying everything out of force of habit.

There are black vinyl copies of 'Pisces Iscariot' from the UK that are much easier (and cheaper) to track down than the US gold vinyl edition. No bonus 7" but it might save you a ton of frustration. (Back at the time I bought a copy thinking it was the US one with bonus 7" and ended up being the black UK one. Fortunately it was only like $20.)

It'd be interesting to hear Machina remixed, but other than that I won't be upgrading.

Re: Smashing Pumpkins to reissue classic albums

http://www.musicradar.com/news/guita...s-reissues-new

Is it too early to talk about some of the bonus material that we can expect on any of the reissues?

"Yeah, only because there's so much material to go through. It's mind-boggling. I was just in Chicago, and there were 700 cassettes all with material on them. Four-tracks, eight-tracks, board tapes…and there's 4,000 DATs. We have 41,000 pieces of things in our archive. We hired a professional archivist to go have a look at it all, and he said he'd never seen anything like it.

"I've been sort of a completist from the very beginning. In fact, I found a tape of me and James Iha at the very beginning of the band, and we're sitting in my bedroom recording my songs. It's like we were doing a mini bedroom concert. Why I was documenting to that level, I don't know. The nice thing, though, is that we can add it to this deal.

"What's going to go on Gish...it's hard to say. We have to locate masters; some things have to remixed, while others have never been properly mixed. It's going to take a while."

He needs to hurry up and get this shit out there..the last thing we need is for the place where all of that stuff is stored burns down . I'm sure he doesn't have most of that shit backed up..especially the older shit.

Re: Smashing Pumpkins to reissue classic albums

Now that I think of it... I'd be really interested to head alot of the unreleased Zwan stuff. Songs like "A New Poetry", "Cast A Stone", "Love Lies In Ruin", "For Your Love", "Rivers We Can't Cross", "My Life & Times", "WP", etc are among the best things he's ever written imho.

Re: Smashing Pumpkins to reissue classic albums

Did they re-release Pisces Iscariot?

I only find the 1994 edition or were those demos and rarites included in the deluxe Siamese Dreams and Gish reissues?

Re: Smashing Pumpkins to reissue classic albums

Mellon Collie coming December 4th...

Looks epic, it's going to cost a fortune.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Smashing Pumpkins have announced a massive, remastered reissue of their most iconic record, the 1995 double album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. The reissue will be available on 4xLP vinyl, 2xCD, digitally, or as a deluxe 5xCD+DVD box set that's expanded to a whopping 106 tracks. It's out via EMI just in time for the holidays, on December 4 in North America and December 3 internationally.

The expanded 5xCD box set's 64 bonus tracks include demos, live takes, and alternate mixes of Mellon Collie era tracks and some previously unreleased songs. The bonus material is spread across three discs that are each named after a different tea: Morning Tea, High Tea, Special Tea. (Nice cross-promotion, Corgan.) The music comes in a velvet disc holder inside a 12"x12" box with "reimagined cover art," along with two books featuring liner notes, lyrics, and collages, not to mention (yes) a "Decoupage kit for creating your own scenes from the Mellon Collie universe."

The CD box set also includes a DVD featuring a 1996 concert at London's Brixton Academy, plus a short 1996 performance from the German television program "Rockpalast".

This follows recent reissues of Gish, Siamese Dream, and Pisces Iscariot, as well as the band's 2012 album Oceania.

Watch the video for "1979" after the tracklisting.
