The Knife: Tomorrow, In a Year: are you freakin' kidding me?
Someone please tell me this album gets better after the first few tracks. Kicking the album off with an endless, boring, hardly audible bleep collage is not promising. Then there's (at least) three consecutive tracks that consist of operatic vocals (almost always a really bad idea) over formless electronics. This is one of the most painfully pretentious first sides by a promising band I've ever heard. It reminds me when I first heard Goldie's "Saturnz Return", it's mind-bendingly awful.
Does it get better any time soon? If not, I'm giving up now. What a huge letdown after "Silent Shout" and the excellent Fever Ray album.
Edit: just read that this is their first "opera". OK, I give up.
What's that? Jessie and Prospector are trapped in the old abandoned mine and Prospector just lit a stick of dynamite thinking it was a candle and now they're about to be blown to smithereens?
