RIP Ronnie James Dio
this was on the xm/sirius fb page, and his official page posted it but its down now
Just got some info from trusted sources that Ronnie James Dio passed away tonight. RIP. Another legend gone - Mario.
well i guess we can close this for now
After a flood of rumors started spreading via the Internet late Saturday that Dio had lost cancer fight, BLABBERMOUTH.NET reached out to Ronnie's wife/manager Wendy Dio, who sent back the following message at approximately 2:35 a.m. EST on Sunday, May 16:
"I am at the hospital and Ronnie has NOT passed away!!!! He is not doing
good, but he is not dead.
"I will let you know if anything changes.
"Thank you for your concern."

Damn, I didn't realize he even had cancer. Hope he pulls through. Metal wouldn't be the same without him.
Really glad I saw him with Heaven & Hell 18 months ago.

Wow, glad he's not dead but I'm bummed that he's not doing well.

Late 60s and going through chemo is a tough battle. If anyone can kick it, it is RJD. The guy is a living legend, the voice of too many classic albums from Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Dio, and Heaven & Hell.
I was hoping to catch H&H but they never came to my area. The last time they did was in 2007 and I decided not to go. How foolish of me. Strike when the iron's hot.

Ronnie's got one hell of a tough fight on his hands, one that most people don't survive. Some do, most don't.
I've been a fan of Ronnie's ever since Mob Rules first came out. His voice and the title track to that album immediately clicked with me. He is my all time favorite singer, and I've had the good fortune to see him live a few times (4 times with DIO, and once with Heaven and Hell). He's a great live performer on top of being a great singer and songwriter.
If he doesn't make it he will be greatly missed. It would be a huge loss.
I'm hoping that he beats the odds.

Official site is down, but the cached version shows this:

I think it's safe to say he's passed on.
