Official NPR's First Listen thread

Might be a good idea for a thread - whoever thinks of it can just post what's streaming this week or when something new is added.

This week we have Broken Social Scene's Forgiveness Rock Record.

And The Hold Steady

The total opposite for me. Absolutely love the new BSS. Upon first listening I'm not diggin' the HS much more pop-friendly sound. "Soft in the Center" is totally lame & "Sweet Part of the City" is a stinker.

Re: Official NPR's First Listen thread

My memory is awful. I ended up giving the BSS 3 stars, as compared to 3.5 with The Hold Steady. So my first post is wrong.

Re: Official NPR's First Listen thread

I'm really liking BSS, that's some good stuff right there. Only checked out hte first couple tracks of Hold Steady, and really wasn't feeling it. Time will tell though, as I didn't care for Boys & Girls in America initially either.

Re: Official NPR's First Listen thread

When I saw this thread pop up, I figured people would be talking about Josh and the Pornographers. About to cue up the Ritter album.

Re: Official NPR's First Listen thread

Last chance to hear four albums, the ones that end on May 4th.

I've been listening to several lately, the New Pornographers is of course a great album, I'll be buying that one. The Album of the Year for me, so far. Better than the She & Him Volume 2 album in my opinion.

The Kris Kristoffersen one was pretty good too if you like that style of music though I really don't think I'll be buying it.

The other two I listened to were the Josh Ritter album and The Hold Steady, both were good also.

Currently Available
Apr. 19-May 4: Heaven Is Whenever by The Hold Steady
Apr. 19-May 4: Forgiveness Rock Record by Broken Social Scene
Apr. 23-May 18: This Is Happening by LCD Soundsystem

Apr. 26-May 4: Please Don't Tell Me How The Story Ends: The Publishing Demos, 1968-72 by Kris Kristofferson
Apr. 26-May 9: So Runs The World Away by Josh Ritter
Apr. 26-May 9: Together by New Pornographers
May 3-11: Cosmogramma by Flying Lotus
May 3-11: Sea Of Cowards by The Dead Weather
May 3-11: High Violet by The National

All of these are good - great. I'll be picking up all of them on release day save Josh Ritter, for now. I'll get that one later. Can't wait to hear the new Dead Weather.

Yeah, I'll be buying all of these too except for the Josh Ritter. They sure choose good albums for these NPR First Listens.
