The Pretty Things

Any fans out there? SF Sorrow and Parachute are amazing. I like their early rhythm and blues as well but when they turned psychedelic they seemed to hit their zenith. SF Sorrow is so much better than the overrated Tommy by The Who. It seems to have taken a few lessons from it. Parachute was voted album of the year 1970 by Rolling Stone but it didn't seem to get it noticed any which surprises me. I think they're easily one of the most underrated bands of all time.

yes and judging by only your reply so far, there's just more proof to how criminally underrated they are!

so here's a few of my pretty things favorites

I never realized the clash referenced them in White Man in Hammersmith Palais until a few months ago oddly.

Re: The Pretty Things

Even among fairly knowledgeable music fans, The Pretty Things are largely unknown. It's a shame.

Re: The Pretty Things

well at least someone knows who they are. I seriously expected a few others to reply, kind of surprising. They are kind of unknown but they're connected well I thought with Dick Taylor being an original Rolling Stones member, David Bowie covering their songs, recording at abbey road, and releasing albums on EMI, swan song etc.

If Big Star can get a career-spanning box set, there's always hope.

unlike big star though they recorded so much that a lot would have to be left off. The snapper cds are good, they all have bonus tracks

Re: The Pretty Things

Admittedly, this is a band I missed. I picked up an LP called "Silk Torpedo" by them, listened to it once, and put it into my sell box. Maybe their earlier stuff was better?

Yes that was a low point for them in my opinion. I think the earlier stuff is way better. Try SF Sorrow or Parachute.
