Van Halen - 1976 Gene Simmons demos
I managed to find a 10 song collection of Van Halen's 1976 demos that Gene Simmons produced, and I was really surprised by just how good that songs that didn't make their albums were.
Some of those songs would have been highlights on a couple of the DLR era albums (and including a couple of these songs on Women and Children First would have made for a better album in that case).
Here's an example:

That is some seriously good stuff!
Hell, I like this stuff so much that I wrote a full review of it!

When you listen to the songs that didn't make VH's later albums it kind of makes you wonder how they got left off the track listing of those albums. I just wish that they'd give these recordings (along with the best of their other Roth era demos) a proper CD release.

The vocals sound horrible. There's really nothing there of what went intro making VH interesting and unique. I think they lucked out by hooking up with Ted Templeman.
Well, OK, the guitar solo sounds a little like Eddie.

I love that song. It's got some killer riffs and a great vocal hook.
And a lot of their classic songs were ready to go by the time they recorded these demos...
