The "on hold music" bit was classic.

Exclusive: U2 To 'Kiss The Future' On Global Stadium Tour

Quote:
U2 will be playing in a setting unique among all previous tours, by any artist. The tour will be global and lengthy. U2 will stay in Europe through Aug. 22, then hit American shores on Sept. 12 with a show at Soldier Field in Chicago. The band will play in North America until Oct. 28 and plans on working the globe until the fall of 2010.
I don't see any dates yet, but the part mentioning "stadium-only" venues sounds interesting...

The best part is 10,000 seats at every show priced at $30. That is less then I paid to see them on the Zoo TV tour.

They played Soldier Field in Chicago back in, I think, the Zooropa tour. The worst show I've seen from them, from viewing distance to sound quality.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of stadium shows, so I may skip this one.

Yeah, I'm out if it's stadiums. The stadium here (Toronto's Skydome/Roger's Centre) sounds like SHIT, with horrible echoes and bad viewing distance too... I'm in love with the new record and see U2 everytime they come, but if that's where they play, I'm out. (just skipped buying Coldplay tix for the same reason - stadiums suck!)

I haven't been to a stadium show since I "saw" the Who in 1982. My tolerance for crappy concert experiences is much lower now. I'll skip.

I think I'm in the same boat on this one. FOr a stadium-sized gig in the LA area, my guess would be either Dodger Stadium or the Rose Bowl. Saw the Cure at both and the acoustics weren't bad, but the view was laughable. If I'd stayed in the parking lot and listened, it would have been almost the same experience.

After the experience of Popmart, I'm a little surprised they're going back to stadiums in the US, especially since the material on this album doesn't seem like it would be stadium-friendly.

^ I think that's due to them not wanting to charge too much for tickets in this economy, but still raking it in by playing to huge crowds.

I have actually seen some great shows at the Skydome. The Stones always manage to get the sound right and the U2 Popmart shows were great. The first night I was 5th row floor dead center, and the second night I was all the way in the back about half way up, two very different experiences but both enjoyable. I would never pass up an opportunity to see U2 especially for $30 to $55.

If the tix end up being $30 to $55, for sure...but everyone else playing Skydome has tix for the standard $100 plus tax service, so I'll wait and see if U2 ACTUALLY end up being different from the norm.

Re: U2: No Line on the Horizon - March 3rd, 2009

Pretty cool stage design, but I was disappointed to see the stage isn't going to be in the center of the stadiums. Which will ruin some of the 360 aspect. I will probably go see the Tampa or Atlanta show.

Re: U2: No Line on the Horizon - March 3rd, 2009

Now... Seeing as one of the articles I've read has indicated they will be touring until fall 2010, I assume they will return to the U.S. sometime in 2010.

As it currently stands, there are no locations even remotely close to me (northeast Ohio). During the "Vertigo" tour, I drove to Philadelphia to see them at the Wachovia Center. This time around, I had planned on buying tickets to shows in both Cleveland and Pittsburgh, and considered getting some to the Columbus show as well.

Unfortunately, with this "stadium only" tour... I have a feeling I'll either be driving a few states, or missing out entirely.

Hmm, I'm considering hitting that Rose Bowl show. Never saw U2 live.

Chances are even if you go, you still will not have seen them live.

It's entirely possible.

Re: U2: No Line on the Horizon - March 3rd, 2009

Yeah, Rose Bowl sucks for concerts - I actually saw U2 at the Rose Bowl for their Joshua Tree tour, and it's pretty much the worst concert venue I've ever been too.

*oops, I actually meant the LA Coliseum (I get the USC/UCLA home-stadiums mixed up) - but they're equally bad for concerts.

Not too excited about this. My choices are the Rose Bowl or Sam Boyd stadium in Vegas. I almost want to wait and see what they have in mind for the 2nd leg of the tour will be when they return the following year.

Re: U2: No Line on the Horizon - March 3rd, 2009

Rose Bowl for me! Last (and only) live show I saw was Popmart at the Colliseum and it blew, but I always blame that on my seats which were high and almost directly left of the stage. And I always blame that on my friend who bought 6 tickets instead of the 3 that we needed because a scalper asked him to.

Anyway, I can't pass up this chance. Who knows, with the guys aging and such, how many more tours they will be able to do in the future.
