New U2 album delayed until 2009

This sucks. An October release had been all but confirmed.

An excerpt from an interview with Bono, from U2.com:

'We’ve hit a rich songwriting vein and we don’t want to stop.' Bono has been talking to U2.Com about how the songs are shaping up for the new record and plans for 2009 to be their year.

‘This is our chance for us to defy gravity once again,' explains Bono, calling in from a break in recording sessions in the south of France. ‘ We have what it takes, we have the songs, new rhythms and a guitar player who is not ready to re-enter earth's atmosphere until he's taken a slice of the moon!
'It's been fun, it's been maddening... there have been injuries and recoveries, no babies born that I know of, but this one is nearly ready for the new year of 2009.'

Well, I hate waiting. But, If it's good it will be worth it.

Not really surprised since it's early September and we don't even have an album title yet. Hopefully this is a decision they made for the music and not one made by the record company to avoid a lot of big releases at once.

Bono released a statement: I was relaxing in my villa, listening to the album at full volume, when I realized it's only eight courics, but with a little work we could push it to twelve.

I thought it was revealed that the album is called "No Line on the Horizon."

Fine with me, but if the first single from the album sounds like anything from the last two albums, I'm crying foul.

I think most sites still list that as a rumor, although a strong one. Someone noticed that Universal had registered www.nolineonthehorizon.com and I guess that's also rumored to be one of the song titles on the album. So two plus two and all that.

Eno is great, but he's not writing the songs. That's up to the boys, and lately they've been very deficient in that department.

I figured it wouldn't take long for the "U2 isn't good anymore" posts to show up.

They need to wait for GH:U2 to be complete. Activision needs some breathing room after GH:M.

I'm always hoping that they will come back and do something great. Hell, an album as solid as Zooropa would be enough to bring me back to the fold.

That's not the point. The point, from the sticky "Music Talk DOs and DON'Ts," is this:

So please, if you're no longer a fan of U2 and/or you're not looking forward to the band's new album, please refrain from posting your threadcraps in this thread.

well, I am disappointed but it's good because there's enough albums coming out this fall that it's good to have something to look forward to in early 2009

uh, you're way off base.

i'm pretty sure that both of us that are being chewed out by you are still u2 fans. in fact, u2 is my favorite artist. period. and i am looking forward to their next album, incredibly.

now is it acceptable for me to again imply that i have a valid concern the next album won't be great due to my feeling that the last one was sub-par? because that's discussing the thread topic.

Agreed. I've been a fan of U2 as long as I can remember. That's why I want to see them do better than they have been lately.

I agree that How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb wasn't so hot (even tho it had its moments and "Vertigo" is one of their great later-career singles), but you didn't like All That You Can't Leave Behind? I thought that was a very solid album and easily the best post-Achtung album.

I love "Beautiful Day." One of their all-time best singles. But that's the only great song on ATYCLB. Most of it is pretty banal, although a few decent tracks sneak in there. To me it was the least interesting thing they had done since October. I even preferred Pop.
