Yay or Nay? — Oasis's (What's the Story) Morning Glory?

Oasis(What's the Story) Morning Glory?

What are your thoughts on this band, and more specifically, this album?

Re: Yay or Nay? — Oasis's (What's the Story) Morning Glory?

I think that it is a bit overblown and gets more credit than I can hear it deserving, however I do enjoy pulling it out once in a while and giving it a spin.

There are some great songs on it though - the title track and [I know everyone hates this one but I love it] 'She's Electric' are my favorites. The singles either were not very good ['Roll With It' and 'Some Might Say'] or were good but didn't hold up to the constant play they received when they came out ['Wonderwall', 'Don't Look Back In Anger', 'Champagne Supernova']. I suppose the title track was a US single as well, but it didn't seem to be everywhere like the others were.

The b-sides are in a whole different league - it's like they saved all of the best songs for the b-sides and put the only alright stuff on the album. 'Acquiesce', 'Rockin Chair', 'Round Are Way', 'The Masterplan', 'Underneath The Sky' and especially 'Step Out' [easily my favorite Oasis song] all are a million times better than the album songs.

Love that album. Don't Look Back In Anger is one of my favorite singles of the nineties and "She's Electric" is catchy and fun. I'll vote "Yay".

I saw them live, and the band is great. I'm not a fan of the vocal style, but there's no denying the talent.

Despite it sounding terrible, I love the songs.

Credit? It's the classic example of an album everyone trashes to sound cool.

Personally, I find it to be a classic example of an album that got huge on a moment in time rather than being the great album it's made out to be.

Don't get me wrong - as I said I enjoy pulling it out every once in awhile and there's some great stuff on it. But one of the best albums of the '90's? I don't think so. It's not even the best Oasis album of the '90's as "Definitely Maybe" certainly has it beat.

That said, outside of a track here and there it's way better than anything they've done since.

I love this album and almost every song on it. With the exception of champagne supernova, I could listen to it every day

It's excellent, I have to admit having a slight preference for Definitely Maybe though.

Has anyone else heard their recent album Dig Out Your Soul? I think it's probably their finest work since the good half of Be Here Now.

Great album.
Was in Thailand for vacation when it first came out and it seemed like the whole country was only allowed to play this album. Everywhere I went, this was all I heard. Despite that, didn't get sick of it and actually have the multi-channel SACD that gets played now and again.

I admit to hating it when it came out for no good musically related reason. I'm by no means a huge Oasis fan now, but I like them fine.

Re: Yay or Nay? — Oasis's (What's the Story) Morning Glory?

I used to love Oasis, but after a certain point I just could not get past how bad the lyrics to nearly every song are. Their lyrics are generally nonsense and usually string words together just because they rhyme. It's a shame because the music is generally so good and deserves better lyrics. As a result, Oasis is good ear candy with little substance.

Some great songs (especially "Some Might Say") marred by inane lyrics and some of the worst production ever.

Arguably their best and still sound great after more than 10 years after its release.

Like it. Don't love it. Has some good tunes, some awful ones, and a bunch of forgettable ones. More hits than misses, though. Groin?

I like it. In that "I'll listen to it when I don't feel like being a music critic" kind of way.

I'll also call it their best album, and, one of the best albums of the 90's. Period.

To me, on a song for song basis, it beats out Definitely Maybe. When I do decide to give it a spin, it's like visiting with an old friend, and sharing some great memories.

No sir, I don't like them. Even though i have all their albums I do not listen to any of them. I really don't know what I was thinking when I bought them.
