ah, that explains it. thanks.

so is the rock band edition at target $29.99 as it is on the website?

http://www.target.com/Pearl-Jam-Limi.../dp/B002M3KDXC

i was hoping it'd at least be a buck or two cheaper, seeing as you're buying both. if it's $29.99, is there ANY incentive to buy it at target, rather than just buying the album and downloading from XBL?

That was my reaction as well...I think the answer is no. Anyone know if Silver Platters is selling it? Planning to do some trade-ins soon and I might just grab it there.

Really digging the new album.

I got Hartford and Grand Rapids as my two concert downloads. So far...Grand Rapids is pretty f'n awesome....great track list and the crowd is really into it. It would be nicer if we could get the tracks in a higher bitrate or lossless...but for $12 and change...I'll take it.

I'd also welcome some suggestions for the free shows. I can look at the reviews/setlists but if someone has a favorite that would be great.

I'd suggest Philly, Grand Rapids and Hartford....

Also, remember when reading setlists to decide which to download, that these "free downloads" do NOT include the cover songs from the shows.

picked up the cd at Target yesterday and gave it 3 listens so far and really like it right from the start (especially the ballads)...the last few releases had to grow on me.

picked up one of the special t-shirts that Target had as well.

looking forward to Philly show next month and full tour next year.

wasn't even paying attention until i went shopping for toilet paper at target and saw the endcap full of cds, etc.

listened to the album twice now, and it's great! a real gem. glad the boys still have it in them!

Damn, Pearl Jam is one whacky ass band...where was this album 10 years ago? Not one song has a "generic" feel to it like many of their other albums have - definitely surprised by that - only listened through it once - really liked what I heard will have to give it more listening.

Which is quite odd, as they did when they were sold as downloadable mp3 and/or FLAC "official bootlegs" previously....I guess when they're selling them, they can then give whatever little payment is required to the song writers but they can't provide them for free....

Beware, Wii owners - the Rock Band 2 version available at Target is only for X-Box and PS3 according to the label.

That isn't much of a surprise though....the Wii does not have a system in place to allow for specific item download codes the same way the PSN or Xbox Live does...
This is why the Pepsi Rock Band promotion was so popular for many Wii gamers, as you just got 200 Wii points for each winning "DLC song" code....

Out Amongst the Waves and Just Breathe are two of the best songs these guys have done in years.

Just Breathe is fucking amazing. My favorite by far.

I've long held that Yield was their last great album(although Binaural had a few decent tracks) and after 3 listens this one is definitely up there. I need a few more listens but so far this definitely feels like a return to form.

Oh and I knew nothing of the Fixer before getting the album and it's definitely one of the worst tracks. How in the hell did that get chosen as the lead single? Baffling.

Yep!

Even more surprising is some of the stuff that didn't get played at that show. No Alive, no Evenflow, no Betterman, no Small Town...

Sure did! First time in 11 years!!
I was lucky enough to have been there the last time they had played it, at Va Beach in 1998...in fact, if you have heard the audience bootleg recording of that show, it was originally sourced from me! Back in the good old days when you could bring in your DAT recorder and mics out in the open....
I can't make it to Philly in October, but I'm really hoping they'll have a bigger US tour next year....I really want to go to a new show!

From a casual PJ fan: new album is not that great.

re: PEARL JAM's new album - Backspacer - to be produced by Brendan O'Brien

Alright, I've had some time to let this album sink in...

Tracks I really like:

The Fixer (you heard me)
Just Breathe
Out Amongst the Waves
Unthought Known
Supersonic

Tracks I kind of like:

Got Some
The End

The rest is pretty much filler or stuff I actually dislike.

Interestingly, I was making a PJ mix CD with the new album included, and I was surprised that not a single track from "Avocado" made the cut. I remember liking the album when it came out, but nothing on it has really held up for me. I actually find Life Wasted and Worldwide Suicide kind of grating. PJ are much better doing personal material rather than political (though I largely agree with their politics).

Conversely, I'm having a hard time narrowing down 2-3 tracks from Backspacer for the mix, which is a good thing. Right now, I'm leaning toward The Fixer, Just Breathe and Unthought Known.

Best PJ album since Yield...and maybe better than Yield.

chess, just FYI, it's just "Amongst The Waves".

i love the whole thing. supersonic reminds me a lot of mankind. only thing i don't like is the 1-2 seconds after "i'm gonna try to love again" in the fixer... hate that part. but i think the rest of the album is great.

Not sure where that came from. Still think the middle half of the album is great.

I even like the pause in the middle of The Fixer. It reminds me of the pause in the middle of "Can't Hardly Wait" by the Replacements.

While I like parts of Just Breathe, I cannot adjust to Ed's twang on it.

I seem to be only one of a small handful with this opinion, though...

I'm also apparently the only person who cares for Speed Of Sound. Know a bunch who liked the demo version, but hate the album version of it.

Glad someone said it. I remember gloating about that album way after its release only to acutally find it to be unlistenable at this point and again.....it's another challenge with the OCD I have when it comes to pearl jam (even bragged about avocado in a thread here). I swear to everyone this is the ONLY band I go back and forth on to no end...I have no idea why either but I defintely do NOT have any problems when it comes to sticking with backspacer (I promise).

Chess - give force of nature a little more attention, you might end up liking a lot more - I did anyway.

Nope, you're not the only one, I like it too! It wasn't exactly what I was expecting based on the demo, but it works in its own way....
I did have one person ask me when they heard the title of the song if they had covered Coldplay though....however no one has asked me yet if they covered Oasis (Supersonic) or The Doors (The End) thankfully....
