What's the oldest K-Tel album you own?

I have some stored away somewhere, so I'll have to see if I can dig them out, but in the meantime I just wondered how many other people here still have any of these. Feel free to include the track listing.

This is weird--I have this one
http://fudgeland.blogspot.com/2006/06/goofy-greats.html
same cover, but I think my track listing is different.
Ah:
"My copy (the one posted here) was a double album, 28 tracks long. But I recently discovered there was another version with only 18 tracks, a single album." I have the single disk.

I have the single disc too. I think some of the songs are edited (shortened). I remember taking that to school in second grade. I thought it was the greatest thing ever.

I remember dad buying a couple of those harmonica alblums too.

OMG! I had "Dumb Ditties", as seen on that blog. Freakishly, I was thinking of searching online for that album just earlier today. Thanks a million! I also had "40 Funky Favorites", a double album. I must have played those albums 1000 times as a kid (I think I still have them boxed up in the basement, along with "Funny Bone Favorites" and several of the others Infidel listed).

I had one from the '70s, but the only song I can remember from it was "Leader of the Pack".

Hi. I am new to this site. I have been looking for that album- forty funky favorites- for several years. I had it as a teenager and it brings back many memories. If anyone has the songlist and artists, I can reproduce it from iTunes. Thanks to anyone who can help

All my vinyl is in another state, but only two come to mind that I ordered as a kid, a 2 LP compilation called Storytellers, which may not have been K-TEL, featuring great storyteller songs, and a Creedence 17 greatest compilation, which I know definitely was K-TEL.

What caused K-Tel to cease? They seemed to put out collections regularly until around 86-87 and then suddenly they were gone. I always thought those NOW albums that do so well are the closest thing to a new K-Tel as it gets.

Supposedly amazing new consumer products are coming soon!
http://www.ktel.com/

More information here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K-tel

In short, it just seems they weren't able to survive healthily enough into the dot com era. But it looks like they are trying to make a come back online. I have no idea how long they have been proposing to have the "amazing new consumer products" soon, though. Copyright on that site is 2007, so I am guessing for a little while. I am not holding my breath.

I might still have Sound Waves from 1980 or 1981. If I do, it's in my yard sale box in the garage.

Re: What's the oldest K-Tel album you own?

How does the business model on these things (and Now That's What I Call...) work?

I assume that salesman convince the record companies that they'll turn a profit off of slightly old hits whose earning potential is tapped out, and the salesmen get a cut of the profits. Do they pay the record companies up front? Per song? Or a percentage of gross over the years? Are deals like this still being made in the age of the internet? I guess so becasue I still see these things for sale at gas stations and car washes.

I doubt a guy with a single post from a year ago will see this, but this might be interesting to somebody.
