DVD Talk Gold Edition
Sky Blue Sky sounds really great. Very impressive. Impossible Germany, On and On and On, Walken, You Are My Face, and Sky Blue Sky.
I was really anticipating What Light, but I really didn't like the background vocals, at all. Maybe it'll grow on me.
Great listen!!!!!!! My friends and I thank you.

Looks like Tweedy has left the "experimental" side of Wilco behind. People were talking like they were becoming Captain Beefheart or the Velvet Underground but it always seemed overblown to me. The occasional sound loop or 11 minute noise interlude always just seemed tacked on for artsy effect. The songs were always the core.

Captain Beefheart, haha....
I think moments like the noise interlude was based on Tweedy's experience at the time. He has severe migraine problems as he discussed in Sam Jones very good doc I am Trying to Break Your Heart. He has also talked recently in interviews about his certain problems during A Ghost is Born.
That said, I think this album is very good, subtle and good. Please Be Patient with Me, Leave Me, Either Way are all songs I keep repeating. Shake It Off I could do without but oh well.

Nice mid-senventies California folk vibe to this album. It sort of sounds like America (at their best) combined with a little Steely Dan and "Harvest" era Neil Young. Great guitar work throughout by the new members. IT's been said before, but this is a throwback to the "Being There" days (happy days are here again). People who became fans (like me) for YHF and haven't heard "Being There" (although I have since bought it) are in for a bit of a shock...

It's also available in two flavors (CD-wise): The regular one-disc CD version, and the deluxe CD/DVD set. The DVD is 48 minutes and features "the band discussing and performing songs from Sky Blue Sky in Chicago." A double-vinyl version is also available.
Plus, if you buy the CD, you'll be able to access a live show from London on Sunday night. There will be another show, available to everybody (CD or no) on Monday night.
And they'll also be on the Late Show with Dave tonight, so be sure to tune in and catch that.

I'm not sure what the prices are everywhere, but Best Buy wants $22.99 for the one with the dvd, while Borders price is $19.99 - I think they both want $14.99 for the regular cd.

DAMN!! I was hoping for $9.99 for the single disc, maybe $14.99 for the CD/DVD. Hopefully somebody has a better deal.
edit: after a quick search, Circuit City and Target both seem to have the one disc for $11.99 and the CD/DVD for $19.99. I think I'll pass on the DVD at those prices.
edit again: Scratch that. $13.99 at Target. Still rather give them my money than Best Buy.

picked it up on the way to work this morning - thank you payday !!! - and steely dan was the first thing i heard too - but man, this is sooooo good - "Hate it Here" is quickly on the way to topping my list of best break up songs ever, and i wanted "On and On and On" to go on and on and on - excellent album - and Nels Cline's guitar work - wow - just crackles.
