Kiss Alive! 1975-2000 11/21

Press release:Kiss's "ALIVE" series represents some of the best live rock recordings ever made. Now all three of those classic albums plus a legendary but previously unreleased performance -- the Millennium Concert from New Year's Eve 1999/2000 -- come together in the ultimate "KISS ALIVE" box set, the four-CD "KISS ALIVE! 1975-2000" (Mercury/UMe), released November 21, 2006."KISS ALIVE! 1975-2000" includes newly remastered versions of "Alive!" (1975), "Alive II" (1977) and "Alive III" (1993) -- all of which charted Top 10 -- as well as "KISS ALIVE: The Millennium Concert" (2000), whose tracks have never appeared on CD except for its "Rock And Roll All Nite." Fans have waited for the Millennium Concert recording for several years. On December 31, 1999 the reunited KISS, with the original lineup, played BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, Canada to ring in the new millennium before a crowd of 45,000. The career-spanning concert was originally intended to be "Alive IV" but the KISS+orchestra "KISS Symphony: Alive IV" appeared in 2003. Meanwhile the Vancouver concert took on mythic status. "KISS ALIVE! 1975-2000" finally fills in that gap in KISStory.Back to the beginning, just two-and-a-half years after the first concert by bassist Gene Simmons, guitarists Paul Stanley and Ace Frehley, and drummer Peter Criss, KISS issued "Alive!" in 1975. The album won the band its first gold award and first Top 40 hit, the live "Rock And Roll All Nite." The album also included such quintessential KISS as "Deuce," "Strutter," "Hotter Than Hell," "Black Diamond" and "Cold Gin."In 1977, KISSteria was in full effect for the band's three-night stand in August at the Forum in Los Angeles recorded for "Alive II." The double platinum set contained three live sides in addition to a fourth side of new studio recordings. Among its anthems were "Detroit Rock City," "Love Gun," "Calling Dr. Love," "Christine Sixteen" and "Rockin' In The USA" as well as the ballad "Beth." "Alive III," came in 1993. The gold album boasted "I Was Made For Lovin' You," "Lick It Up" and "God Gave Rock 'N' Roll To You II.""KISS ALIVE! 1975-2000" also adds a pair of bonuses: the single version of "Rock And Roll All Nite" to the "Alive II" disc and "Take It Off" to "Alive III." Deluxe packaging includes a booklet filled with photos and an informative essay written by noted KISS expert Ken Sharp.

Wow. The covers for KISS:ALIVE I and II bring back such fond memories. Looking at the covers with your mouth hanging open in awe, taking the plastic off, pulling the sleeve off the album and seeing the "Casablanca" label, and starting the record player...talk about being inspired to be a Rockstar.

I'm watching, "When KISS ruled the World" on Vh1 as I type this.

I sold KISS ALIVE I & II awhile back to my cousin and never replaced them. At the $20 BB.com has the box set for, I can't pass it up. I always knew I & II should have been on 1 CD each instead of 2 CDs each.

Lemme get this straight:

Alive IV is the "Millineum" concert, held on New Years Eve 1999 and "2000 Man" is a limited bonus track?!?!?!?

..... and then having your parents promptly take it away and hide it in a closet! This happened to me on my 13th birthday. A friend gave me the album and I remember as I was ripping the paper off the gift at my party and saw the bloody mouth that there was no way my parents were going to let me keep it. And they didn't. Funny thing is they changed their minds a couple of weeks later and I think that's where I truly began my love of nasty rock n' roll. But I couldn't care any less about hearing Kiss live in concert from outside the 70's.

just got home from best buy and buying the 4 cd set - yes, I was going to buy it anyway, but specifically bought it at best buy for the 2 bonus tracks on the 4th cd... and THEY'RE NOT THERE! they are not "hidden tracks"... there is not an extra bonus disc... there are 15 tracks on it and all are in the 4-5 minute range... the 2 bonus songs "2000 man" and "god of thunder" are simply not on there!!! IF you're going to best buy for this reason, you may want to wait... (and yes, there was a sticker on the outside of the package indicating that there were 2 best buy exclusive bonus tracks inside the package)...

You gotta be shittin' me! I just got back from Best Buy, walked in the house, opened up the CD set, was getting ready to put them on, when I read this. I'm checking it out; will let you know about mine.

[through clenched teeth] NO FUCKING BONUS TRACKS!!!

This is from a music site I checked out:

"Prepare for a return trip to hell. They're not on there and no one there knew what happened. I believe they were supposed to have been on disc 4. The clerk at the return desk said this kind of thing has happened before (bonus stuff not being shipped with the product), so I opted to get an additional 10% off the sale price rather than wait to see if a corrected version ever arrives. I guess I can live without the bonus tracks. And since I'm already grumpy because of this, I'm gonna complain about the packaging. This is basically deluxe edition packaging, not box set packaging."

My Best Buy didn't even carry it. Still $19.99 is a great price.

How does the IV concert sound?

Sounds great! Very well-mixed, not muddy at all.

I too am very pleased with the sound... and you're right - it is not a "boxed set" package - more like the recent "deluxe editions" with the clear plastic slip case around the fold out digipack...

Yeah, the packaging is kinda weak. I wish it was a flip top box with mini album sleeves.

Picked mine up at BB earlier today - haven't checked it out yet.

But you know what? For 4 CD's, bonus tracks or no, it's till the best deal out there. I would have paid that much just for the re-mastered ALIVE 3, and unreleased ALIVE 4 alone - which is basically what I did. The two bonus tracks - if they're missing on mine - would be nice, but they were really just icing, and not the reason I was getting it in the first place.

Yeah, I'm with you Rocketdog2000. But "2,000 Man" should be on the "millenium concert" no matter what! Makes no sense not to have that song on there.

I wouldn't be suprised if kiss ends up releasing the millenium disc by itself later on and includes that song on there.

from KISS website:

KISS Fans are the greatest! Not 15 minutes after the KISS ALIVE!!! 1975-2000 CD Set went on sale this morning, we started receiving fan emails informing us that the Best Buy store version did not contain the advertised bonus tracks "2000 Man" and "God of Thunder." Thank you for bringing this to our attention so quickly.

Though not directly involved with Universal's Best Buy store promotion, Paul and Gene were made aware of the bonus track problem and have chosen to help rectify the situation for the fans. Several solutions are currently being discussed by Universal Music and we expect to post more information in the next day or two.

Bottom line - Paul and Gene appreciate your support and any fan who bought the CD at Best Buy expecting these two tracks will receive them.

Cool. Keep us updated. I already have the remasters of Alive I & II but have the old version of Alive III but for $19.99 (plus the supposed bonus tracks), I was probably going to pick this up today at BB.

Does the Alive II include the copies of the original Kiss tattoos like the solo remaster did? Just curious.

no, unfortunately no stickers or tattoos in the package... but the booklet included is very nice! it includes all pages from alive 1 (the hand written letters from the band), alive 2 (the fold out booklet of photos), alive 3 (photos & hand written letter from band), and the unreleased alive 4 (photos & text)...

...and of course, before I dumped my remastered re-issues of Alive! I & II at the used CD place, I kept the tattoos from Alive II.
