Yeah, I saw this in a Black Friday ad. It's a limited 6-disc set for $25 at Wal-Mart.

From memory, it's Sevens, Scarecrow, Double Live.... can't remeber what else. Nothing that got me too excited though. Everything was already released, but they may have had bonus tracks like the last box set did (though I don't remeber that from the ad). If I find it tonight, I'll update this post.

And as far as the set goes, I'd love a Garth DVD, but it really sucks to have to re-buy three albums that I already own to get the new stuff (even at a very fair price overall). No way around that, I suppose...

Saw the ad. They call the CD Lost Sessions, so that sounds like alternate takes and stuff. The DVD is called All-Access, so I doubt if that's a live concert. I'll keep looking...

He did a Wal-Mart meet and greet tour with his first album. I stood about 10 feet from him. He was not mobbed at the time, being that he wasn't one of biggest selling solo artists at the time.

I'd get that set. I don't actually own any of his stuff on cd...it'd be a nice upgrade from cassette.

It's a good move by Brooks. Everyone has all his old stuff already, so when a company comes along with an assload of money and says "we'll pay to be the only store that carries your music," who wouldn't agree?

Oh yeah... not only will I admit to owning the Chris Gaines release, I'll also admit to loving it. It only failed because rock fans wouldn't accept anything by Garth Brooks, and country fans wouldn't accept him doing anything other than southern rock (what Brooks and the rest of these people do is NOT country music).

This looks like Part Two of the box set that compiled his first six albums.

I think it failed because no one was ready for the Messiah to come back.

Awesome deal! I was just about to buy Double Live for $23 alone, so I will be all over this. Anyone know when it comes out?

I was very disappointed with the Double Live CD back when I bought it. Rather than making it sound like one continuous live event. They'll play 2-3 songs and then fade out the crowd. Then they'll fade the crowd back in and start another 2-3 songs. I'm pretty sure I only listened to it once or twice, I was so turned off by the mix. Still baffles me to this day as to why they did this.

I am assuming that the first track is a remake of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band song. Are the rest originals?

I hate the way they arranged the Double Live CD as well with the fade outs and fade ins.

You've never heard Jim Croce's "Operator"? I think Garth cut a cover for a Croce tribute album once if I'm not mistaken.

And I was bothered a little by the fade ins on Double live, but it's a compilation of lots of different shows; maybe they felt this was more honest than making it a single continuous piece.

Billboard.com

Here's a decent article with a few quotes from Brooks on releasing old VHS on DVD in the future, and possibly recording a duets album with Trisha Yearwood.

Anyone who purchased this have any comments on the "Lost Sessions" disc?
