What artist would you most like to see a greatest hits CD for that doesn't have one?

There's definitely some musicians I can think of that don't have hits CDs that should -- Chris Isaak jumps to mind, and also, even though he's only had a few albums, Eminem could produce a decent one.

Other thoughts?

I can't really think of any.

Greatest hits albums are usually created for mainstream audiences who only have heard of a hit single or in fulfillment of a recording contract. If there haven't been an radio hits or they were able to get out of their contract, no purpose for a greatest hits album....

I see no point in Eminem releasing a hit album yet. Even though he is running out of steam, his carreer could conceivably go on for a lot longer. You usually don't release a hits disc until your carreer is done.

With Pearl Jam releasing theirs this past week there are still a few i would like as a casual fan of these artists and only want a greatest hits cd of there work,

Goo Goo Dolls

I know there's more but can't think of them right now.

To me, Best of or Greatest Hits albums are just released to ease the pain of not having a new studio album. :p I mean I guess new fans can get a nice sampling of the band's music, but I don't know of anyone who did. Besides, every band I like that's been out more than 10 years has one already.

My vote would go to Missy Elliot.

Don't care to own the albums but would love to have a singles compilation.

I have to disagee. While what you are saying is true, Greatest Hits packages can also serve a second purpose. Using my example from above, I enjoy Missy Elliot but I don't want to buy 5 lps in order to hear the twelve songs I like. A hits package would be perfect for me.

Actually, now that I think about it, rap is a great genre for hits albums. Many rap albums are overlong, filled with skits, intros, outros, etc. I like Busta Rhymes but I don't want an 18 track Busta Rhymes album with three good songs on it. See what I mean.

I picked up the Best of Wu-tang and damn if it isn't great. Every song rocks. Aside from 36 chambers, the same can't be said for their albums.

I will always prefer collecting the actual albums of bands I love because I want to hear all the songs in the order they chose in the context of where they were at that point in their career. But for artists I simply "like", sometimes a hits CD is perfect.

I'm with you on Eminem. A talented rapper but his singles are far from his best work and a "Greatest Hits" CD (while I'm sure would sell huge) would suffer greatly from this fact.

Now Hillary Duff on the other hand....

I think the band Bush is due for a hits collection. There's so many albums out now (I'm only familiar with the first) that I don't know what the key songs on each album are. A hits collection would answer that.

Chirs Isaak is really due for a greatest hits package. He has more than a few albums:

That's a good one. Having owned all their albums I would think most of the songs would come from their first 2 albums. The rest of their music is ok at best.

There is a "Essential Fishbone" CD out there. But it doesn't have "Modern Industry" in it. :mad:

I was going to suggest Pink Floyd, thinking that much like KISS they have several greatest hits (actually, more like a collection of several of our songs from this period and before) albums...but they never bothered to actually name them that. For example:

Works
Collection of Great Dance Songs

and finally and most recently Echoes, only to find out that it actually had greatest hits tacked on to it. Well, not to mention it actually is pretty much a career spanning collection.

Probably Jay-Z. I like the very few songs of his I've heard. But I've never gone out of my way to look into any of his other stuff.

Yeah, and Gin Blossoms actually have two Greatest Hits compilations when they only had two albums... C'mon people!

Social Distortion is an excellent candidate. They have many albums, but not a lot of great songs on these albums - one or two at best per album.

Offspring is another who may as well do it. They're all over with, thinks I.

Garbage.

They're one of those bands, like Everclear or Stone Temple Pilots, who have a handful of songs I like but I don't want to be bothered with owning all of their CDs.
