Uninteresting and tiresome; dull.
This is from someone that likes Kid A and sleeps through Hail to the Thief, by the way.
And from someone that hates The Darkness. Passionately.

I'm not a big fan of Radiohead at all, and I don't know what the hell to think of the Darkness. Thier song "I Beleave in a Thing Called Love" reminds me of cheesy Hair Metal music crossed with Tiny Tim. The really sad thing is, that as silly and cheesy as that song is, it is a breath of fresh air compared to all the other crap played on rock/nu metal radio these days. Like I said, I don't know what to think, it makes me tap right along, and not change the station in disgust, but I don't know why. The song sucks. I guess it's just good to here a song that has not been drop tuned, and sung in some sort of Pearl Jammish/Creed voice. It may suck, but it is better than anything on rock radio today. Yep, it's sad to say, but the bands that the radio play these days are even worse than the Darkness.

I just rediscovered The Darkness last night after some heavy drinking and other things. Man, what a promising band that imploded due to the drugs. I lost track after the second album and was happy to see that they cleaned up and released a third album not too long ago and that they're working on a fourth album now. These guys, antics aside, were the second coming of Queen. Justin Hawkins has a legendary voice and is a killer guitar player to boot.
Here's the awesome cover to their latest album called Hot Cakes (chuckles):

Love The Darkness. The first two albums are incredible. I can understand how some people don't get them though.
The less said about Radiohead the better. Though I do like Jonny Greenwood's movie soundtrack work.

Likewise. I like Greenwood's movie score stuff and I like Thom Yorke's DJ stuff. He'll always come into town and play some of the divest bars/clubs/lounges and rip it up. I've never cared for Radiohead.
I missed out on The Darkness when they came to L.A. last time out.

I didn't get The Darkness way back when they first came out. But I gave them a chance a few months later and really enjoyed them.
Went to see a show and they were fuckin incredible live, too.
Glad they're back.

I wanted to scoop up all 3 of their albums on vinyl but they're way too expensive - even used. I'll have to wait for a long while before that even becomes a possibility.

I'd take The Darkness discography over Radiohead anyday.

I agree Radiohead is boring a lot of the time. They have their moments, however. Some stuff they have done is just really innovative and fresh sounding. Unlike THS band. I never heard of them. I listened to a few songs and it was quite possibly the worst music I've heard since Def Lepperd and Quiet Riot. PLUS, the video I was watching, the singer actually had a handlebar mustache.

I Believe In A Thing Called Love from the Permission To Land album is a classic track from The Darkness. If the singer had a handlebar mustache it must be from their latest album called Hot Cakes.
They're good 'ol rock 'n roll.

Shit, I just realized I posted to a thread from 2004. Fuck. I hate that.
I guess I see what they are doing. Not for me though. I left that shit behind a long time ago.
BTW, that video sounds like early Sparks.

It's fine for me, because I get the joke and I get their comments. They're a fun rock band that's just trying to have a good time without taking themselves seriously at all. It also helps, that musically, they're pretty damn good even if they are lampooning the industry. The lead singer can really shred on guitar. Seriously, if the drugs hadn't fucked him up during the release of their second album they would have been the second coming of Queen.

I somewhat enjoyed that video you posted.
You should check out Ween. Like anything from Chocolate and Cheese onward if you like virtuoso musicianship playing/lampooning various genres.

Here's The Darkness's very first single and you really can't go wrong with the Excalibur guitar gag - I still don't have a final count as to how many people and institutions they parodied in this video.

I Believe in a Thing Called Love is one of the most fun bar songs out there. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Hot Cakes is a very solid album. Fans of the first two will love it just as much.
To this day I can't figure out how physical sex never made it onto any album.
