The Sounds

Does anyone else like this cool Swedish band? I read a small article about them in Rolling Stone and decided to purchase their CD.....it's really good.

I almost bought the album last wee, but I hesitated. I want to hear what some other people have to say about them.

I saw them on Letterman a couple of weeks ago and thought they sounded really good, but when they were on Carson they sounded like crap. That didn't influence my decision though, I was just going to wait on a purchase.

They have a strong early 1980s "new wave" sound....a little like Blondie. The lead singer's vocals remind me of a husky voiced Wendy James from the British band Transvision Vamp.

I also picked up Elastica's BBC Radio One Sessions CD and X's Los Angeles CD.

Good call on the Transvision Vamp likeness. Saw them on Letterman, too... Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Today my wife said the same thing about the Wendy James/Trans Vamp sound of her voice.

Just saw the Letterman performance and liked it.

They were in town with the Ravonettes a few weeks back so I decided to get the cd and was going to the show until at the last minute I couldn't make it.

I really like the cd and recommend it.

Oops! I thought they are British but they are actually Swedish. I edited my original post.

I saw them on Letterman as well. I would love to see them live.

...thread bump...

Has anyone seen these guys live this past summer? I am going to see Rooney this Friday and I found out that they were opening up for them (along w/ Palo Alto). I bought the album a couple of months ago and I do enjoy it, I was just curious if anyone saw them live and what their impressions were.

Thanks...

I'd heard a lot of good things about the album but was disappointed with it when I got around to buying it. The singer got on my nerves after just a couple of songs.

yes but we're not supposed to abuse the privilege. Then it will be taken away and that would be just plain shitty.

I have to say that The Sounds are the shit. For forty-five minutes they put on one hell of an energetic show. My brother and his friend have never heard them before and they loved them. I couldn't believe how good they sounded. Their lead singer rules - one has hella sex appeal when they can rock out like that. If they are coming through town near you, I recommend them whole-heartedly. She did a fine job of getting the crowd into the show. Damn, that was awesome. My wife loved them, too.

Rooney was damn good, too. They put on a fine set. My brother's friend saw them open up at Lollapalooza and he thought they sounded much better in the club we were at last night than in a damn ampitheater. They also had great energy and did a good job of getting the crowd into it.

I saw them last fall and I plan on seeing them again when they come to Mississippi Nights at the beginning of March w/ Imarobot and Killing Hannah.

They put on a great show - I highly recommend them.
