This Is It! Ok Everybody! Let's Sing!

It's the "One Day At A Time" theme. One of the better TV show themes around!

This is it; this is it. / This is life, the one you get, / so go and have a ball! / This is it; this is it, / straight ahead, and rest assured, / you can't be sure at all. / So, while you're here, enjoy the view; / keep on doing what you do. / Hold on tight; we'll muddle through, / one day at a time, one day at a time! / So, up on your feet; up on your feet; / somewhere there's music playing. / Don't you worry none, / just take it like it comes, / one day at a time, one day at a time, / one day at a time, one day at a time, / one day at a time, one day at a time, / one day at a time!

it's a rare condition/in this day and age/ to read any good news on the newspaper page/ the love and tradition/ of the grand design/ some people say is even harder to find/ well then there must be some magic clue/ inside these gentle walls/ 'cus all i see is a tower of dreams/ real love bursting out of every seam/ as days go by/ it's the greater love of the family.

"family matters" circa 1989.

"Oh the world dont' move to the beat of just one drum, what might right to you might not be right to some... "

"Wake up in the morning, feeling kind of lonely, gee I got to school..."

"You take the good, you take the bad, you take em both and there you have, the facts of life..."

How did the "Growing Pains" theme song go? A whole slew of TV theme songs are coursing through my brain at the moment.

I also have the "I'd like to buy a world a coke" song in my head as well.

The main hook was "What would we do, baby, without us?" but that's all I remember...

GROWING PAINS

Show me that smile again. (Show me that smile)
Don’t waste another minute on your cryin’.
We're nowhere near the end (nowhere near)
The best is ready to begin.

Oooohhh. As long as we got each other
We got the world spinnin right in our hands.
Baby you and me, we gotta be
The luckiest dreamers who never quit dreamin’.

As long as we keep on givin’
we can take anything that comes our way
Baby, rain or shine, all the time
We got each other Sharin’ the laughter and love.

That's FAMILY TIES

I bet we been together for a million years,
And I bet we'll be together for a million more.

Oh, It's like I started breathing on the night we kissed,
And I can't remember what I ever did before.

What would we do baby, Without Us?
What would we do baby, Without Us?

And there ain't no nothing we can't love each other through.

What would we do baby, Without Us?

Sha la la la.

When I wake up in the morning
And the clock lets out a warning
I don't think I'll ever make it on time
By the time I got my books I give myself a look
I'm at the corner just in time to see the bus slide by

It's alright cause I'm saved by the bell

If the teacher pops a test I know I'm a mess
And my dog ate all my homework last night
Ridin low in my chair she won't know tha t I'm there
If I can hand it in tomorrw it'll be alright

It's alright 'cause I'm saved by the bell.
It's alright 'cause I'm saved by the bell.
It's alright 'cause I'm saved by the bell.

Here we are, face to face
A couple of Silver Spoons.
Hopin’ to find, we’re two of a kind
Making a go, making it grow.

Together, we’re going to find our way.
Together, taking the time each day.
To learn all about those things you just can’t buy.

Two Silver spoons together.
You and I together (We’re going to find our way)
You and I together (We’re going to find our way)
You and I together.

It's about time,
It's about space,
About strange people in the strangest place.

It's about time,
It's about flight,
Travelin' faster than the speed of light.

About space people and a brave crew,
As through the barrier of time they flew.
Pass the Roman Senators,
Pass an armored knight,
Pass the firing Minutemen,
To this modern site.

It's about time for you and me
To meet these people of amazing feats.
It's about two astronauts and how they educate
A pre-historic woman and her pre-historic mate.

It's about time
It's about space
About strange people in the strangest place.

They will be here
With all of us
Dodging a taxi, a car, a bus.

Where will they go
What will they do
In this strange place where everything is new.

Will they manage to survive
Watch each week and see.
Will they get accustomed to the Twentieth Century.

It's about time
For our good byes
To all our pre-historic gals and guys.

And now,
It's About Time
It's About Time
It's About Time
It's About Time!

I was in my friend's dorm last week studying for a final with them. All of a sudden, I hear from the rooms in the hall one of my favorite (guilty pleasure) TV themes of all time:

We run, we jump, we swim and play;
We row and go on trips.
But the thing that lasts forever;
are our dear friendships.

Camp Anawanna,
we hold you in our hearts;
and when we think about you,
it makes me want to fart!
"It's I hope we never part."
"Now get it right or pay the price!"

Now we will share a lifetime
of the fondest memories;
by the Lake of Anawanna,
set in the old pine trees.

Camp Anawanna,
we hold you in our hearts;
but when we think about you,
this thing came apart!

Think Ana-wanna-wanna!
Speak Ana-wanna-wanna!
Live Ana-wanna-wanna!
Ug!!!

Ah, the old Nick shows. They were great. The memories.

it's time to play the music
it's time to light the lights
it's time to raise the curtain
on the muppet show tonight..

i'm listening to nirvana b-sides right now, so that's about all that i can get out without having to stop the player and really concentrate.. or do further research on the web..

i wish i could think of the statler and waldorf bit.. ("why do we always come here/i guess we'll never know...")

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale, a tale of a fateful trip, That started in this tropic port, aboard this tiny ship.
The mate was a mighty sailin' man, the Skipper brave and sure. Five passengers set sail that day for a three hour tour.
A three hour tour.

The weather started getting rough, the tiny ship was tossed.
If not for the courage of the fearless crew, the Minnow would be lost.
The Minnow would be lost.
The ship set ground on the shore of this uncharted desert isle,
with Gilligan, the Skipper too, the Millionaire
and his wife, the movie star, the Professor
and Mary Ann, here on Gilligan's Isle.

You probably know this song was not written for the show but taken from the full length A3 (Alabama 3) album.

What other TV shows have taken previousily written songs and made them their theme music:

"Party of Five" comes to mind with the BoDean's 'Closer to Free'

Others?

"Best Friend" - Theme to The Courtship of Eddie's Father tv show.

People let me tell you 'bout my best friend,
He's a warm hearted person who'll love me till the end.
People let me tell you bout my best friend,
He's a one boy cuddly toy, my up, my down, my pride and joy.

People let me tell you 'bout him he's so much fun
Whether we're talkin' man to man or whether we're talking son to son.
Cause he's my best friend.
Yes he's my best friend.

I always liked this song when I was a kid.

Sigmund and the Sea Monsters

Series/Season 1, Beginning:

Spoken:
Sigmund, you're a rotten sea monster
Sigmund you're through!
Scram, get outta here.

There's nothing like a day out on the beach,
When all it does is rain.
You need somebody else to make,
The Sun come out again.

When you find that special someone,
You never expected too.
It'll make you believe in magic,
It's a change of life for you.

Chorus:
Talk about, friends, friends, friends.
Knockin' at you're door, friends, friends, friends.
That's what friends are for,
Friends when you're young or old,
Everybody needs, friends, friends, friends.

Now, friends, friends, friends.
What's it all about? friends, friends, friends.
Can't live without,
Friends won't let you down,
You gotta have, friends, friends, friends.

I must admit my life has changed,
Since you came on the scene.
And everything is twice as nice,
If you know what I mean.

I can't change the way I feel,
And wouldn't if I could.
I never had someone before,
Who made me fell so good.

(repeat chorus)

Series/Season 2, Beginning (my personal favorite - bubblegum sound)

Let me tell you a tale, a very strange tale
About two boys that were surfing one day
On a very weird beach around Deadman's Point
Where there are haunted sea caves they say
And strange sea monsters have been sighted there
When you're travelling in the area, beware, beware, beware, beware

Spoken:
Sigmund, you are a rotten sea monster
You're a disgrace to the family
Go out and scare a human or you're though
Get outta here

Meanwhile back on the beach
Johnny & Scott are combing in the rocks
Unaware that behind them Sigmund lurks
Prepared to give them a shock

BOO!
In total surprise the boys eye
This blob what can it be?
And then it groans and moves and lo
It's a monster from the sea

Now, Sigmund the Sea Monster and Johnny and Scott are friends
The finest of friends that ever can be on the land or on the sea
Now, Sigmund the Sea Monster and Johnny and Scott are friends
The finest of friends that ever can be on the land or on the sea

Ending

You better run, you better hide
We gotta keep you out of sight
Be careful Sigmund.

Cover your tracks when you leave
Cause you know Zelda won't believe
Your friend is Sigmund.

Who ever heard of a friendly seamonster
Lovin and laughin his life away?

You better run, you better hide
We gotta keep you out of sight
Be careful Sigmund.

The other monsters put you down
cause you're not mean
And now we've found
A friend in Sigmund.

Who ever heard of a friendly seamonster
Lovin and laughin his life away?

The other monsters put you down
cause you're not mean
And now we've found
A friend in Sigmund.

He's alright
He's out of sight
He makes me smile
I like his style
I hope he stays awhile
And he's doin' fine
He's a friend of mine.

***
I managed to find the season 2 opener complete, and its terrific! Have been unable to find complete versions of the season 1 opener, or the ending theme. Found partials, but never complete.
