What's the best album that has been released in the first four months of 2002?
My pick:
Dream Theater-Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence.
What's yours?

Clinic - Walking With Thee
Sounds like parts of Radiohead mixed with punk and postrock and a definite Krautrock (think Neu!) influence. I'm seriously doubting if I'll hear a better CD this year.
Also worth mentioning:
Cornelius - Point - This one is Japanese noisepunk mixed with electronics and wacked out samples.
Antipop Consortium - Arrhythmia - Underground experimental NYC hiphop with mad IDM beats straight out of an Aphex Twin release, hell, it's even on the Warp label. Doesn't resemble boring mainstream hiphop in the least.
The Notwist - Neon Golden - Krautrock and punk mix, beautiful melodies.
...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead - Source Tags and Code - Brilliant indie garage punk from Texas. This is the kind of punk music that should be popular, not the sugar-coated pap that gets mainstream airplay.
various artists - Brain in the Wire - 3 disc collection of experimental electronic and industrial music from Brainwashed.com. Features Coil, Nurse With Wound, Current 93, Legendary Pink Dots, Kid 606, Matmos, Diamanda Galas, Volcano the Bear, V/Vm, Aranos, Fridge, Meat Beat Manifesto and many others. Best compilation ever!
That's all for now. Support your independent music scene and independent record stores.

4. Hella -- Hold Your Horse Is
5. Secret Machines -- Secret Machines

. . . And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead - "Source Tags and Code"
I haven't yet purchased the Wilco disc, so I can't rate it's quality.

Not that it's artistically brilliant or whatever (I don't listen to enough different stuff to be a music critic)...
but the only one I can't get out of my player is Alanis Morissette's Under Rug Swept.

...And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead
"Source Tags & Codes"
absolutely terrific album (f'ing crazy live show)
JonTurner, yes I am really liking the Alanis record too. She gets hated on but she makes great music. The lyrics get a little dumb at times but "Flinch" and "That Particular Time" are incredible.
The Wilco album is growing on me. Starts off a little too sloooow but gets much better.

Wow. Reading this thread made me realize I haven't bought a CD released in 2002 yet (and we're nearly in May). Last few have been 2001 discs - Lifehouse, Linkin Park, etc. I think Moby's new disc will be my first purchase...

Wilco's YHF in the first quarter of 2002? Since it was released in April, wouldn't that mean it is a second quarter release? Or are we speaking in fiscal terms here?
First quarter - January, February, March
Second quarter - April, May, June
So, I'd vote for YHF as my early front-runner for the best second-quarter disc so far, and also for the best disc for the first-half of 2002 so far, when those polls roll out in July. But you know, come to think of it, I don't remember buying anything new in the first quarter, so what the hell--I'll give it to Wilco there, too. And also, I first heard YHF last September, so I'm going to give it a retro-pick for the best album for the third-quarter of 2001.
(This is what happens when I have four hours of sleep in a twenty-four hour period, and have gotten my wisdom teeth pulled. No wisdom teeth + no sleep = dumbass posts.)
