Songs that have been ruined by a movie
What song has been ruined for you by its association with a movie? Either you can't think of the song without thinking of the movie, or the association with the movie ruined the intent of the song.

For me, it's Patsy Cline, "Back in Baby's Arms" from Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. I love the movie, but every time I hear the song now, I imagine John Candy's hand in Steve Martin's ass cheeks.

"There She Goes" by the La's. Admittedly, not that great of a song, but when they played it ad nauseum in So I Married an Axe Murderer I never wanted to hear it again.
Woody Allen has overused "Sing Sing Sing (with a Swing)" as well. It seems like he tries to slip it in to every movie.

"Layla" -- from the scene it was used in Goodfellas. I can't think of the song the same way I did before.
Not a movie, but I hope to God that Chevy paid a shickton of money for "Like A Rock". I honestly can't hear that song and not think of a Chevy truck -- and I've never wanted one!

Thought of some more: "Born to Be Wild." This song is used in every movie where an aging baby boomer tries to reclaim his youth by driving an old car or motorcycle.
"Carmina Burana" has been done to death as well, mostly in trailers but in movies as well.

After the Cranberries' song "Dreams" was used in the soundtrack of every movie released in the 90's, I never want to hear it again. R.E.M.'s "Everybody Hurts" also had this effect on me.
Also, Boys on the Side (which had the song Dreams in it, BTW) ruined a perfectly good Roy Orbison song by having Whoopee Goldburg sing "You Got It".
And how about the other way around? Movies ruined by songs? I personally refuse to see any movie that has Celiene Dion or Whitney Houston on the soundtrack (although I did eventually get around to seeing Titanic, but didn't stick around for the credits).

Hedrix's Foxy Lady in Wayne's World.
By itself it wouldn't have been so bad. But it's part of a scene where Garth dances to it using his crotch - most disturbing.

The song just makes me cringe these days.

There is too many... especially The La's 'There She Goes'. Also, 'Like a Friend' by Pulp from Great Expectations, such a lovely song, such a crap movie... But what about tv commercials : there are tons of them too.. Especially Ladytron's 'Mu-tron' in that damned Toyota commerical. Also, 'Song 2' by blur was used *everywhere* and now I completely hate that song..

"Sweetness Follows" by R.E.M.
"Wild Honey" by U2
Because both are some of my favorite songs by my favorite artists that showed up in Cameron Crowe's one wild miscalculation of a film "Vanilla Sky."
Damn him for that. If ever I were to make a film, "Sweetness Follows" was one of the "must-have" tunes for the soundtrack.
Curses! Foiled again!

On the other hand - Bittersweet symphony in Cruel Intentions made me go back to that song. Come to think of it, the whole
soundtrack was perfect.
Its perfectly placed in that movie.
but lots of music gets killed by bad usage
