What music artists have you met?

Inspired by the I Met Trent Reznor and the rest of Nine Inch Nails! thread.

Has anyone else met any other artists?

I've met Deborah Gibson and Willa Ford. Got a picture and autograph with both.

I've met Jon Fishman from Phish. I saw him walking through an airport actually. I didn't want to bother him much but did go up and introduce myself and thanked him for the music.

I also met Rhett Miller from the Old 97's. I went to one of their shows with a few friends. While the opening band was playing, we went up to the (mostly empty) balcony to have a few drinks. We sat at a table, and there was a skinny guy writing something at the table next to us. I wouldn't say we abused him actually, but we were a bit rowdy from the liquor and asked him a few times to call our waitress for us. Let's just say I wasn't as polite as I normally would be. He got up for a minute and left his pad. I glanced at it and it was a setlist of Old 97's tunes. That's when I realized... When he came back, I apologized and talked to him for a few minutes.

Finally, I met Britney Spears. A buddy of mine is a DJ and was asked to play a "private party". I went with him, and when we got there, it turned out that it was Britney's party. Not much else to speak of on this one.

Meeting Jon Fishman and Rhett Miller might not seem like that big of a deal, but Phish and the Old 97's are probably my two favorite bands. It was quite a thrill to meet both without even trying to do so.

I went to high school with Zack DeLaRocha.

He was a pretty normal/popular kid. I resent how he has used his "minority" status to pretend like he was made to feel put-down-upon than he really was while growing up.

He was no less disadvantaged than any other average Orange County high school kid.

He was fun to hang out with, though - kind of a class clown.
We used to ride bikes in the "wilderness" of Irvine before it was all developed over.

I have met a few... My favorite are....

Steven Tyler - ran into at a Ritz hotel and talked for about 20 minutes.
Sting - was extremely laid back and nice.
Nikki Sixx - he is the definition of a 'cool' rock star.

The worst was Deion Sanders (he did do a song once didn't he?)

One time at a Horde festival M. Doughty of Soul Coughing ran into me while trying to outrun some female fans. He excused himself and kept walking.

I've also met and talked to jazz group SheshBesh, although briefly.

After a show at Philly's Electric Factory I met each member of Jurassic 5 as well as members of Dilated Peoples. Later on that show we were invited to attend a taping of J5's new video "W.O.E. is Me" (I did not make the final cut). During that taping I also met hip-hop legend Schoolly D.

My best meeting was with Prince Paul (of De La Soul) protege MC Paul Barman who was a delight to see on stage and in person.

J5 and Dilated Peoples were by far the friendliest and most supportive of their fans, although Schooly D asserted that he wanted to find a party and anyone that wanted to go with him could.

I once briefly met Bono & Edge of U2 along with 50-70 other fans hanging outside their hotel. They are EXTREMELY patient and generous.

At cd signings (I never see famous people in "real life"):

Garbage
Chris Isaak
Indigo Girls
Tony Bennett
Linda Ronstadt
Matthew Sweet
Donny Osmond
Yo-Yo Ma

Everyone was very nice and friendly, particularly Yo-Yo Ma and Garbage.

I used to work at the Late Show, so that's how I met most of these people:

Faith Hill
Pearl Jam
Foo Fighters
Oasis
Live
(Paul Shaffer )
I know there's more, but I guess those are the ones that stick out in my mind.

I hung out once with my favorite band, Toad the wet Sprocket. Really nice guys.

I worked as a studio/tour musician for LaFace records in Atlanta for a few years. I played with, and met many musicians, too many to list.

I met and partied with Andrew Fletcher (Fletch) of Depeche Mode for over five hours at his restaurant in London. He actually sat at our table and bought me and my friends several bottles of wine and many many cocktails. Probably because the females in my group were very hot. He even dj'd for us from the stereo behind the bar. It's a small place. Thought that was a cool experience. This past summer, hung out with Fletch *and* Martin Gore for about 30 minutes at the Philadelphia Four Seasons Hotel bar after their concert. Along with their touring drummer, keyboard player, back-up singers, managers, etc. Martin sang for us at the piano. All true. And very surreal.

I met and hung out with Shakespear's Sister for about 45 minutes in their dressing room after their concert at the 9:30 Club in Washington D.C. back in '92 (does anyone remember them?).

I kind of met the B-52's. I interrupted an interview MTV was giving them outside the Peta Concert on the mall in D.C. back in '89. I was SO drunk. I just had to say hi to Kate Pierson and Cindy Wilson. Heh heh. They were cool. Smiled and said 'hi'. Shaking my hand. MTV wasn't too happy I barged in on their filming.

I also met Dave Wakeling and Ranking Roger from General Public and the English Beat after a General Public concert.

And I ran into several members of the Escape Club at a small club in D.C. when they were in town touring. They had that one hit called "Wild Wild West".

I've actually hung out with a few bands...mainly Dallas based. i've hung out with Rhett from the Olds on a few occasions and been to many parties where he was having fun.

About 5 or 6 years ago I met Leigh Nash from Sixpence, before she was married, and then emailed her asking her to my Junior Prom. Her boyfriend, Mark Nash, emailed me back with a paticularly nasty email. He's like in the band PFR.

Before a day long concert, I met Jason Martin from Starflyer 59 and David Baazan (sp?) from Pedro the Lion. They hadn't eatten all day and were asking about good kind of fast food. I went with them to a good hamburger joint. This was in Wichita, KS. They were really cool guys with a lot of stories to tell.

those are the ones I remember.

Cool story. I talked to David Bazan briefly before a show in Montreal. PtL was playing with Low, who I also got to talk to briefly -- Alan, at least -- because I was let in early (during soundcheck) to take photos.

The only other artists I've met are less widely-known. I hung out with Barbara Manning and the Go-Luckys 2 nights in a row -- went to dinner and a small party/gathering after the last show. I played host to a small Australian band called The Mabels (they're on Candle records outside the US, and I think Drive-In in the states) -- they stayed at my house after a show, had dinner, watched dvds, and generally lounged around. I met Ted Leo briefly after a show. I hung out with Swearing at Motorists after a show -- went to a bar and a small party.

David Byrne was very nice. He was playing at a big music festival in Atlanta and was simply walking around checking out the place. One of the security guards later told me he had refused all security and security escorts and wanted to simply enjoy the festival. All of the other acts were escorted around on golf carts with security guards or in vans.

He was friendly and talkative, and signed some Talking Heads and solo stuff for me.

One of my friends who knows some guy who works for the Red Hot Chili Peppers hooked me up with backstage passes to a couple of Red Hot Chili Peppers/ Foo Fighter concerts awhile ago. I stood next to Dave Grohl during the Chili Peppers show and I got to hang out on the tour bus for awhile after the show with the Chili Peppers.

PFR? Pray For Rain? Isn't that a Christian-ish group? He shouldn't be sending out nasty emails .

I've only met one. Spider One of Powerman 5000. I got him to sign a ticket stub for me.
