I bet they won't. They make a lot of money from US citizens importing albums and singles. Especially when it is an album and they buy the US version then say buy the JAP version for the bonus tracks.

Seriously, man, what the hell are the studios thinking? That we only buy from other regions to piss them off? That people go to all the trouble, just to say "bwahahaha, I pissed off those studios!"
I currently only have R1 DVDs (nothings interested me enough to change), but I have a couple of import CDs. Did I buy them because I enjoy paying a premium? No, for the extra tracks! Why do people go multi-region? For many more reasons: anamorphic, extras, not available here at all (Buffy).
And I don't want to hear any crap about rights either. The studios made their bed, now they can sleep in it. Re-negotiate, pay off someone, cooperate (remember that word? I learned it from Sesame Street when I was a little kid, maybe some studios need to watch that)
I just wonder if the sales of the R1 Buffy set next week will be lower because of the all people who imported theirs two years ago. I'll be pretty pissed if Fox decides there's no market. At that point, I'll be going multiregion myself.

If they encoded music CDs for regions I'd just have to go codefree in the music world as well. I've got a lot of UK and Australian imported discs.

It's not just a question of bonus tracks either. The Warner CDs of the Black Sabbath catalog are terrible. Almost no range at all. So I've compiled a complete set of british releases on Castle which are remastered with great liner notes.
For years, the Led Zeppelin catalog in the US was made from old vinyl masters and sounded terrible. The only altenative was japanese remasters at $30+ each.
The Ramones catalog was unavailable on CD in the US until the last few years. Again, Japanses imports were the only choice.
Region coding of CDs would be a bad, bad idea.

If CD's become region coded we should all go postal on Sony and/or whomever the dumass is that would do such a thing. Over 90% of my music collection is from the UK (can't remember the last disc I bought by an Amercian artist) and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
What a sad world this would be....but it ain't gonna happen!
