Do You Like Garth Brooks?

For me...I like all types of music. I don't like to stick to one genre like a lot of people (who are completely boring...even some of my friends )

From rap to country
Classic Rock to Jazz
Etc. to Etc.

--------------------------------------------------------
I have been listening to a lot of music lately...but most of all I have been listening to a lot of Garth Brooks!

I prefer his ballads rather than his country"rock" songs, although I love his duet with George Jones ("BEER RUN") and the song "Friend in Low Places"

Garth, whether people like to admit it or not, is one of the few country performers that has a number of ecletic followers....not just pure country fans. My friends love his music, but listen to mostly classic rock or modern rock....

Some highlights:

The Beaches of Cheyenne (my personal favorite)
Unanswered Prayers
Somewhere Other Than The Night
When You Come Back to Me Again (from Frequency)
If Tomorrow Never Comes
In Another's Eyes
The Dance
It's Your Song
What She's Doing Now

----Among others.

Well do you like his music?

What is your favorite Brooks song?

I like all kinds of music, from N'Sync to Busta Rhymes, but I cannot stand Country music, so I voted no.

in a day when good country artists are few and VERY far between......I voted yes.

I know he gets over played alot but at least he's one of the very few talented country artists.

Never liked him that much and can't stand him now that he created a "rock persona" for one of his albums and then retired twice. When it comes to country, give me Johnny Cash, Lucinda Williams and Allison Moorer -but- NOT this guy.

I, as well, was not keen of Chris Gaines...but when it comes to performing, Garth busts through. His concerts back in the early to mid 90s....were great. Although I was young, I still loved them.

I too like other country artists, a lot of the good old timers:

David Allen Coe, Johnny Cash, Charlie Pride, The Bellamy Brothers, Merle Haggard, George Jones, and my all time favorite Hank Williams Jr. among others.

He used to be one of my favs but has fallen down on my list after that whole Chris Gaines stint. I would much rather listen to some George Strait or Chris Ledoux than to Garth today.

I have a lot of different kinds of music in my collection, but very little country. Part of the reason is that I dislike slow ballads, many country songs have incredible trite lyrics, and I hate songs where somebody always dies in the third verse.

Garth Brooks always seemed to me to be a creation of record company marketing, like Britney Spears or Limp Bizkit. A carefully crafted persona to appeal to as wide an audience as possible. Apparantly he has some real control over his career, though, as the Chris Gaines disaster proved.

For country, give me Bocephus or my all time favorite country performer, Jerry Reed. Alan Jackson has some decent material too, and Dwight Yokum's earlier stuff is very good.

I also like a lot of styles of music from techno to punk to country.
I royally dislike Garth Brooks. To me he is all that is wrong with country today. I honestly cannot understand his appeal when people like Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, Mavericks, Dwight Yoakam and Lucinda Williams are around. There is just no comparison at all when it comes to which is better in my mind.

I don't care for his music at all...and I really don't consider it to actually be country. Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Merle Haggard,Kris Kristoferson is the real thing.

His music doesn't do a thing for me.

What bothers me is not his music but his inflated ego.

huh???????????

To answer the question, I do like Garth. However, my favorite country MALE is Alan Jackson. My favorite song(s) Garth sings is Shameless and The River.

I also like the Dixie Chicks, Craig Morgan, Trisha Yearwood, Mindy McCready, Wynonna... but mostly early 90's country.

I like his music an awful lot. I think his best work is the live version of the Thunder Rolls.

He's ok.

I generally like to listen to most of the women country singers.
They don't have too much of the country accent. Can't stand it. Except Reba, who I don't listen too anyway.

I thought of this thread last night during the AMA's when Garth got his award. I bet you guys watched him. I thought it was neat that he mentioned Sandy.

I voted yes. He's definately far from the best Country artist, even if you were to narrow it down to the 90s, but I like most of his stuff. Some people will even argue that he's not very country, which I can see sometimes. I saw him in concert and he was great (excellent performer). And what I've heard from his new album, it's pretty good.
