Today's CDs (10/4)

Black Heart Procession -- 2
Black Heart Procession -- 3
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club -- BRMC
Black Sheep -- Wolf in Sheep's Clothing
Blonde Redhead -- Melody of Certain Damaged Lemons
Blue Mountain -- Dog Days
Blue Rags -- Rag N Roll
Blur -- 13

So I participated in a focus group for Spin last night (50 bucks!) and I don't think they liked me. They asked people to use an adjective to describe Spin and I answered -- "Not as hip as it thinks." I also told them to get rid of the fashion spread, make the articles longer and add more reviews. I think our group was pretty pro-Spin at the beginning but because of my constant nagging, they agreed that it needed work. I like Spin, but it could be so much better. It was fun.

Nice job. Always good to make money doing something you love.

If they wanted a one-word adjective, I think "delusional" would have summed up your sentiments pretty well.

Today, some time:
Tenacious D

Finally broke down and bought it.

Jonas Bering - Bienfait
Tobias Thomas - Fur Dich
Herbert - Bodily Functions
Bark Psychosis - Hex
The House of Love - The House of Love

Spin has some good writers who contribute from time to time, like Simon Reynolds and Sascha Frere-Jones (sp?). The magazine makes itself look pretty bad when reviews for records are run long after they've been in circulation. Like with the Clinic record; I'm sure Frere-Jones had it soon after it was released in the UK last year, but it's possible the editors didn't want to run it until after it came out in the US. So the writers could very well be up on things, it's just that there could be something odd going on with the editors -- they don't seem to want to take any chances. I haven't truly looked forward to reading the magazine since about '94.

Something about the main guy, Alan Licht, annoys me; I don't know what it is. I could probably meet the guy and really like him. Spin's relationship with VH1 has kinda soured my opinion of him. And I really don't want to get into Eric Weisbard...

So far today, I've listened to:

A live set by DJ Brockie with MC Det and MC Skibadee that I burned to a CD

and

DJ Dara - Future Perfect

It's been a drum and bass day for me so far!
