I'm not really a Godzilla fan but that looks pretty sweet.

I thought there was a thread in Anime Talk, but no.

I guess I've just been reading about this on other forums for a while now so I thought everyone was aware.

Finally watched this last night after reading lots of Negative reviews. So glad I watched...I LOVED IT. Godzilla is a FUCKIN' BEAST. Part 2 is supposed to hit in May.

Re: Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters (2017 Animated Film)

I dug this a lot, too. Although for a film called "Monster Planet" there sure wasn't much monster action. Now that all the world-building exposition is out of the way, the sequels have no reason not to crush it.

G was a bruiser here. Loved his different origin and powers.

Animation was a bit clunky and the action looked terrible when things got heated, but I'm also not an anime fan so it wasn't a huge bother.

Loved the opening monster cameos but def not enough of any of them.

Can't wait for part 2. Mechagodzilla!

I was dismissive of this due to it being animated. I have been a fan of G since I was young. Guess I should check it out.

Re: Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters (2017 Animated Film)

Watched it with my son the other night and we both liked it. It suffers from some story issues (exodus and return were rushed) but it's got some good monster action. Like islandclaws said, now that everything is set up, parts 2 and 3 should be more hardcore action.

Re: Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters (2017 Animated Film)

Just finished watching this and thought it was great. Loved the heavy sci-fi angle and G was incredible. I thought the animation style rocked. It almost reminded me of Tim Bradstreet artwork blended in with some cgi.

Rumor has it that
Spoiler:
Mecha-Godzilla
will be in Part 2. This is also part of a trilogy, so expect the last part before year's end.

^ Not really a rumor. They've already said MechaG would be in the sequel.

Here is a really cool timeline a guy put together for this Anime based on some related sources. It helped me clear some stuff up.

Re: Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters (2017 Animated Film)

Godzilla meets After Earth... I kept wondering why they didn't populate the surface of the moon or Mars instead of going adrift searching for a new Earth. And I'm trying to understand more about the EXIF, they seem to be like the aliens that brought Megalon?

Re: Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters (2017 Animated Film)

I might have missed something but with the entire planet available to them, was there a reason they landed right where Godzilla was? Or are we to assume there are Godzillas all over the place?

The whole place is a mess. What I gathered was they wanted to deal with what they saw was the worst threat first.

They had a plan for dealing with Godzilla based on the work of Haruo and on the suggestion of that alien working with him that Humans CANNOT co-exist with Godzilla .
Spoiler:
When they returned, they had thought they had been away 20 or so years. However, what happened was somehow 20,000 years passed on Earth and everything had changed....also, "Godzilla" was still alive. But not only that.. his presence over that time had radically changed things on Earth. After killing "Godzilla" the ORIGINAL Godzilla that drove mankind away from Earth rose up...it had grown to that massive size over time.

I thought they knew they had been traveling for 20 years, but underestimated that it had been 10K years difference with Earth. They kind of gloss over how they got so far out other than to say they were depleting their resources. I assume they did a massive hyperspace jump just to get away from Earth, but there wasn't any explanation that they knew where they were going.

Yeah, it's kinda vague there, but I got the impression
Spoiler:
that they didn't have any specific destination in mind, they were just hoping to find something. On the return trip home, it was a hyperspace anomaly that made them jump 20,000 years instead

They had a destination in mind. But when they got there it didn't work out. That's what Haruo was mad about at the start of the anime. He believed they were only sending people to the uninhabitable planet who they deemed expendable, old, sick, etc. to save resources. His Grandfather was on that ship that exploded.

Spoiler:
I thought that the planet was a last chance effort, kinda like they had a system in mind, but not a particular planet. They tried some of the other planets, but they didn't work out so this was the last one. If they had a particular planet in mind, I don't think they would have been so desperate to sacrifice people because resources were dire. Of course, they had enough juice to make the jump back to earth, no problem.

I would like to learn more about the Exif.

Exif...potential bad guys? Agenda? We'll see...

Spoiler:
No. They had a specific planet in mind when they left Earth. It's actually a real place. However, when they got there it was not what they hoped for. They were desperate and didn't think trying to find a new planet would work. So they decided to head back to Earth.
