This is one of my all time favorite movies. It's hard to believe it's been 35 years since it was released. I miss the 80's.

The first time I saw it (I was probably 20), my best friend and I rented the VHS and watched it at his house. When Spicoli called Mr. Hand a dick, I laughed so hard that I couldn't breathe. We immediately replayed that line 5 or 6 times, not knowing that there would be another scene later that we'd replay even more.
Speaking of Phoebe, if you've never seen her in her movie debut, Paradise, put it on your watch list. The movie stinks to high heaven, but day-yum, she looked good. She even warbled the theme song, which was a minor hit in Italy, if I'm remembering correctly. I kept a photo of Phoebe and her costar, Willie Aames, clowning around in my wallet for years (I think that I found it in the National Enquirer) because I've never seen her looking better than in that photo. I wish that I knew where it was now.
Here's the picture sleeve of the Spanish single, with a publicity shot from the film gracing it:

The unbuttoned shirt/bagel in the pants was when he wasn't in class but near the food machines and had to be tricked into coming by being told there was a birthday party for him. That scene has the "I don't know" bit in it.

LOVE this movie... it holds up and it's one of the 3 or 4 movies I'll stop what I'm doing to watch it thru. 16 Candles and Rocky IV are two others

Weird. He (Shia) just irritates the snot out of me, but most of the comments on youtube are praising him.

^ I’ve always liked Shia but I can agree, sometimes he’s a little much.
Dane Cook looks like he’s had a little work done. He looks like a wax figure of Dane Cook.

We’re the major difference in Spicoli’s dialogue because they used the original script and it differs from the final film, or is it a result of Shia going massively off script? He definitely made some outrageous choices, like doing the whole thing in his car

It was interesting to hear about Sean's 'audition' from Cameron Crowe. I wish there would've been more of that interview, as it seemed to end abruptly.

I read that Sean Penn acted Spicoli "method," so it wouldn't surprise me at all if he improvised dialog.
I remember hearing that he was always in the Spicoli character, and that had Ray Walston pissed at him through most of the shoot because he was all Spicoli all the time.
In the scene where Mr Hand ripped up his card, on one take he called him an "old red-faced motherfucker," which reportedly really pissed Walston off. Too bad they didn't use that take.

Honestly, I would have been far more interested in watching this with original cast (or as much as they could get).
