To this day that is the only time where I saw a sequel that made less sense because I watched the original first.

If you mention Jonah Hex then I'll throw out Wild, Wild, West. I wouldn't pay money for the DVD/Blu-ray, and I wouldn't go out of my way to watch it but if I ever come across it while channel surfing, sure, I'll stop and finish it.

That's a good one, I wouldn't own it either but I also don't mind tuning in on TV. It's a fun watch, made funner by Kevin Smith's story about the spider.

You mean the theatrical version which turned Connor McLeod into a space alien? Ridiculous movie, hence that's why it tanked so hard and the future sequels pretended it didn't exist.

The Renegade version for home video tried to save it, but it was too little too late. Terrible Terrible movie in the series.

The Sea of Trees. 12% on RT but I found myself immersed with those two characters.

Agreed. I thought this was extremely underrated. The 12% score is ridiculous.

Re: Critically Panned Movies You Kinda Dug

There are two movies mentioned that i also like. And fan of Highlander 2 and also The Avengers. I really liked a lot of the design of Highlander 2 and i didn't mind them trying to take the franchise in another direction. Now the sequels after this were truly horrible. The first movie was fantastic and i can see why people dislike part 2, but its one of those movies that whilst liking i dont hold it so preciously as some. In fact i would love to see a well made remake/reboot. Thats a series that could have legs if done well.

As for the Avengers, well if you look at the original TV series the movie keeps to those roots quite well. Silly, jokey and not to be taken seriously. I think Fienes and Thurman were well cast and Connery as the villain made a nice change. I have actually re-watched the movie a couple of times this year and feel that its not deserving of the utter contempt it seems to create. Could it have been better? Sure, but that could be said about 99% of movies. I think it needs people to watch it with an open mind, a sense of levity and to just go along with the ridiculousness of it all.

Actually i have just read more on the thread and there are many more i like. The Survivors is Robin Williams best movie in my opinion and great, Vanilla Sky, The Shadow/The Phantom (good double bill), The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (does surprisingly well for a PG13 adaptation and a lot of the design is great). And how Fear And Loathing gets such a lot score is beyond me. I hate the movie the first time i watched it, but it simply gets better every time you watch it and i have considered it a classic for many years now. The Criterion is superb. Del Toro and Depp crack me up in this movie. That scene in the elevator, throwing the change for the tip to the midget waiter....lol. Gonna rewatch it tonight.

I always liked the movie. Came out around the same time as The Specialist and felt similar with Stallone in both movies, but this is far superior. I quite regularly walk past the buildings in Old San Juan where Banderas is waiting to kill Stallone as he leaves the bank at the end of the movie. Always think of that scene when there.

I am an unironic fan of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and think the movie actually improves on the graphic novels by Moore.

If you are going to turn that property into a fantasy adventure movie, the 2003 film is perfect with excellent casting.

I still have no idea what people were expecting from that movie and why it gets trashed so often.

Re: Critically Panned Movies You Kinda Dug

Well i dont think the LoEG improves upon Moores graphic novel, but it has its own story that i think fits in nicely as a companion piece. Having the villain as Moriarty pretending to be the Phantom of the Opera was also a great idea. I liked the whole plot of placing countries in a war stance against one another. The only things i woukd have chnaged are the actress playing Mina and the actor playing Moriarty. Seen both in other things and they felt the weak links. Oh, and the guy playing Tom Sawyer. Great idea having the character in to give it a more international flavor, but that guy sucked.

Wow, didn't realize that Stephen Norrington hasn't directed a single movie since the failure of LoEG. And he was a pretty hot commodity after Blade. I know he was really pissed off at Sean Connery, but wow.

LoEG really Trank'd his career.

Re: Critically Panned Movies You Kinda Dug

The addition of Tom Sawyer was probably the movie's weakest change from Moore's work.

Reviewers aside, from what I've read around here I don't think anybody likes this movie, but I like Battlefield Earth, so does my wife. Eragon was another movie the reviewers didn't like, but we do. Read the books afterward, while the movies don't resemble the books to any large degree, I still like the movies. They're entertaining and that's what matters to us.

Oblivion-Tom Cruise

Great fucking film, amazing visuals and a kickass score by M83 that was completely ignored by the Academy.

I have owned this movie on VHS, several DVD versions and Blu. Nope not trolling. Not sure what it is but I just like how goofy it is.
