I'm way more miffed on this timeline I pointed out earlier than the "8 years" one.
Makes no sense!
My logistical issue was that they had their academic decathlon before homecoming, and homecoming dances are at the beginning of the school year and the decathlon finals, especially the ones where you'd have to go on a trip like they did, are at the end of the school year.

I know most here don't care about actors personal lives, but thought it was interesting that EW.com is reporting that Holland and Zendaya are seeing each other offscreen.

Good for them. Hopefully any chemistry between the two translates for the sequel.

Yeah I get that if you enjoyed the movie, you don't want to get nit picky and over-analyze it. But, still it's a pretty glaring continuity error with the rest of the MCU Universe.

It makes no sense. It seems like the writers of Homecoming didn't get their script checked for continuity.

Just When Is Spider-Man: Homecoming Set?
The film starts off in the aftermath of the Chitauri invasion of New York, which until now, had been dated at 2012 (the year The Avengers was released). Text on the screen then tells us we're jumping to a time "Eight Years Later," where we run through a Peter-Parker-focused summary of Captain America: Civil War. It's tremendous fun, and Spider-Man's reactions to key events — such as Ant-Man going all 'Giant-Man' — is hilarious.

How is that eight years later? Here's the timeline according to Civil War:
2008: Tony Stark reveals to the world that he is Iron Man.
2012: The Chitauri invasion of New York.
2016: Eight years after Tony Stark outed himself as Iron Man, the Sokovia Accords are passed.
There's no fixing this. You can't simply move the events of The Avengers to 2008, and assume that everything in the MCU's first phase all happened in the same year; it introduces far too many problems for the overarching continuity. Meanwhile, if #SpidermanHomecoming was actually set eight years after the events of The Avengers, the film would take place in 2020. That directly contradicts Peter's entire character arc in the film, while set details for the Staten Island Ferry feature adverts for 2018's Stark Expo, which would be two years out of date.

Silly thing is they could have not specified the year jump.
Anyway, continuity error but doesn't affect anything in practice as far as any actual major plot points across any of the movies, so whatever.

Everyone (from Feige and Disney/Marvel on down to the viewers) needs to stop trying attach firm dates onto these films. That never works in any kind of shared universe setting. Just know that one movie takes place after another movie and leave it at that.
Even if you're running a tight continuity like Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul, there are still going to continuity issues that creep in, like how old is Mike's granddaughter supposed to be. And trying to keep everything on a timeline is one of the reasons George R. R. Martin has taken years and years get his Song of Ice and Fire novels out.

It isn't a very good movie, but Gwen and Peter were one of the only things that worked about that movie, IMO. I thought I remember reading a bunch of reviews stating basically the same thing.

Didnt Vision mention something about "8 years since Stark revealed himself as Iron Man" in Civil War? If this takes place a few months after that the 8 years later thing works, right?

Really liked this, but Happy should be fired for his incompetence. Being Peter's handler, and then proceeds to completely ignores his messages to the point that he starts getting in over his head, then later ignores an urgent message from Peter's phone from someone who's clearly not Peter- which should be a huge red flag.

The thing about the 8 Years Later title card... it worked fine without it in the rough cut. People that have been following the MCU shouldn't have a problem with the events in the Homecoming prologue. Not sure why it was included in the final release.

Liked it didn't love it. I thought Holland was good and Keaton was very good. I don't want to be "that guy" but I thought it tried to be too diverse just for the sake of being diverse.

Since a few people have brought up the city's demographics, if we want to get really anal about it we're also talking about a high school aimed at science and technology which I'm going to say would differ from the demographics of the rest of the city.
Tom Holland spend time at the Bronx High School of Science in preparation for the role, which according to this link has a much different ethnic distribution then the rest of the city or state.

I don't really buy that all the main cast and classmates that Peter interacts with is diverse is simply an attempt to hit proper demographics; Hollywood casting just never really seems to work that way. Being an Asian guy, seeing a Filipino guy cast in a big role as Ned is pretty cool given the "white washing" complaints that have been prevalent over the last year, but the casting of Ned, Liz, Michelle, and Flash still stand out to me.
