Finally saw this. In my local cheap theater, what, three months after release? Above average, but felt a little forced and too much like the first. Definitely fun, but more a background movie for subsequent viewings for me.

So, watched this for a second time (on UHD) and... basically the same opinion as the first time. The jokes were a bit forced but I did enjoy the performances from Chris Pratt and Michael Rooker. Still not nearly as good as the first but it's entertaining enough.

Watched this last night and seem to have an opposite opinion of many posters here. I didn't feel the jokes were nearly as forced as they were in part one. I felt there was a lot more humor in part two and not every joke is going to to stick but the majority of them had great timing and were used well. You want to talk about "forced jokes" let's talk about the ridiculous dance off at the end of vol. 1!
To me the cast had so much more chemistry this time around and seemed to play better off each other. The Yondu/Rocket jail escape sequence is probably my favorite scene so far in the series. And let's face it, every movie is better with Kurt Russell!
Of course, while I liked vol. 1, I didn't love it like most people did so, to me, there was room for improvement.

For me Drax and Mantis were the best part. I would watch those two if they had a show.

I don't think I could take Drax laughing that much. No thanks.

I loved both Vol I and II and if anything I feel this one was a bit more personal than the first one.

We watched this a couple of nights ago, I enjoyed it quite a bit, gave it a 4 out of 5, I thought the first GOTG was a bit better though. Still, I'm happy to have this in my collection, we'll watch again when it comes back up in the rotation.

I really enjoyed this movie and think it was better than the first one. Not sure why it seems to get so many people thinking its average or poor. Good action and effects, more laughs than most comedy movies these days, and a villain that was pretty cool, different and it didn't end with a portal in the sky.

I liked it a bit more than the first as well. I need to see it a second time though to see how it holds up. The characters were already developed which made them stronger for this one.
I just wasn't a huge fan of Drax's comedy hour. With his awkward nature, laughing at stuff worked in the first film. Him cracking up in every scene he was in this movie got tiresome. Oh and the soundtrack was a letdown compared to the first. Gunn tried to be too cool with the deep cuts.

I think one of the complaints is just how small scale it seems compared to the first. The first jumped all over the place, this one felt much more contained to Ego.

This is a pretty good video essay on Guardians of the Galaxy 2. It expresses well all the themes of the movie and personally I thought it was better than the first one because it was able to build from it and go deeper with the characters

I like that the second film had more of a low key, personal vibe to it. While there were certainly universal implications that had to be addressed, like the plan of Ego, most of the film focused on the characters that had already been established.

Yeah Ill admit I definitely enjoyed the "Feels" aka "icky relationship shit" of GotG2. Father Son, Sisters Sister, We are Family, etc because I felt like they did them well. But I didn't wanna sound like a chick.

And oh...the whole scene where Ego explains his history to Peter? TOTAL RIP OFF of the Man of Steel scene with Kal and Jor El inside the ancient kryptonian ship! Animated 3D graphics and all.

Our whole family really enjoyed this one. The only nitpick I had with it was that I was getting pretty bored when it was just Kurt Russel and Chris Pratt on screen together. They didn't real seem like they had great chemistry to me. And I really started rolling my eyes when they started tossing the orb around since he missed playing ball with his dad growing up. Other than that though, it had great action and comedy. I do wish they would have kept everyone together in more scenes though. I did miss that after the first encounter of the movie.

A major blockbuster sequel that went bigger on characterization and depth than action set pieces... and it worked.

The only way the relationship/family aspect could have been any better is if they had a barbeque at the end. Preferably at the house next door to Dom's Fast and Furious family while they're having their barbeque.
