American Assassin (D: Cuesta S: Keaton, O'Brien) Sept 2017

Dylan O'Brien to Star Opposite Michael Keaton in CBS Films' 'American Assassin'
7:21 AM PDT 5/10/2016 by Tatiana Siegel , Borys Kit

The project is based on the Vince Flynn best-seller of the same name.
Dylan O'Brien is in talks to play Mitch Rapp in American Assassin alongside Michael Keaton.

O'Brien's possible involvement has been the buzz at the Cannes market, where Lionsgate is selling international territories of the film that will be released in the U.S. by CBS Films.

The project is based on the Vince Flynn best-seller of the same name, and Keaton is set to play Hurley. Michael Cuesta (Homeland, Kill the Messenger) is directing from a screenplay by Stephen Schiff.

CBS Films has been courting O'Brien for months, but there was a big question mark given the injuries he sustained during an accident on The Maze Runner sequel. But it is hoped that O'Brien will be good to go in time for the production start.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Marshall Herskovitz and Nick Wechsler are producing.

He is repped by WME.
Looks like being run over by a car in the Maze Runner film didn't slow Dylan O'Brien down to film this. Looks interesting.

I love the Mitch Rapp series. Looks like they changed a fair amount of the plot but I'm all for a good spy-shoot em up-punch everybody movie. Let's do it!

Saw this tonight at Alamo Drafthouse. Overall it was really good. Very brutal and bloody. Keaton was great. Some very iffy cgi at the end was really the only issue I had.

That's great to hear. Looking forward to seeing this one.

Also, I think that red band trailer (above) reveals too damn much. Fuck.

I have a friend that saw it already and says it's awful.

Just read Empire's review and they didn't like it either.

It looks very generic, like Jason Bourne Jr: Extra Lite. Kudos to the lead actor for recovering from his serious injuries to get back into the business though.

Really couldn't come up with a little less generic name? Why not just call it "Guy Kills Guys"?

It's the same name as the book it is based on, which is a part of a series.

One of my biggest movie pet peeves is titles like "American _______". Ugh.

Re: American Assassin (D: Cuesta S: Keaton, O'Brien) Sept 2017

I saw it over the weekend. Felt like an R rated TV movie, which can't be a coincidence since it was produced by CBS Films.

That being said, I thought it was honestly fine for a generic action picture. I was never bored and the action was entertaining enough.

I'd watch a sequel

Re: American Assassin (D: Cuesta S: Keaton, O'Brien) Sept 2017

I really liked Dylan O'Brien and I thought he was really good in the role and looked like he could handle himself.

The action was pretty good overall. Yea, a bit generic.

I would most definitely watch a franchise out of this.

Re: American Assassin (D: Cuesta S: Keaton, O'Brien) Sept 2017

I just got back from seeing a matinee. Thought O'Brien was awesome in this. Very mature role for him and I thought he handled the hand to hand combat and action scenes very well.

Keaton was good as his handler. Was surprised to see Scott Adkins in this as well.

Opening sequence with the group of terrorists gunning down innocent tourists at the beach was kind of horrifying to watch, but it did set in motion the story.

I'd see a sequel if this film does well enough to warrant one.

Saw it also, didn't blow me away, but I was entertained enough. Forgot Adkins was in this, and of course he didnt last long When is this dude gonna get his big break?

Re: American Assassin (D: Cuesta S: Keaton, O'Brien) Sept 2017

I've been a pretty big fan of O'Brien since I saw The First Time. I think he could have a really good career ahead of him.

This was a really great interview about the accident that occurred on The Death Cure and his recovery.

Re: American Assassin (D: Cuesta S: Keaton, O'Brien) Sept 2017

Saw it opening weekend. Wasn't impressed but didn't hate it either. Feels like something that would be better served straight to video due to the budget and how generic it was. Keaton was good and O'Brien wasn't awful but he reminded me too much of Jared Padalecki. Overall I'd probably give it a 2.5/5. It's a good time waster when your bored but nothing amazing. I would give a sequel a chance if it came out however.
